Purchasing a stock may seem straightforward, but selecting the correct stock without a proven strategy can be exceedingly challenging. I've been working on expanding my $210K portfolio for a while, and my primary obstacle is the lack of clear entry and exit strategies. Any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Investing without proper guidance can lead to mistakes and losses. I've learned this from my own experience. If you're new to investing or don't have much time, it's best to get advice from an expert.

The issue is people have the "I want to do it myself mentality" but not equipped enough for a crash, hence get burnt. Ideally, advisors are reps for investing jobs, and at first-hand encounter, my portfolio has yielded over 300% since 2020 just after the pandemic to date.

My dividend journey began when I realized that two particular expenses in my budget were always going to go up and never go down. The two expenses were taxes and insurance. I realized that the dramatic rise in both will need some added income. So, I started buying shares paying dividends. I can now see that this will be the path I need to take to make sure those two expenses will not overtake my future income.

As a beginner, educate yourself, Learn the basics of investing and the stock market. There are many resources available online, including books, articles, and online courses. It’s a good idea to diversify your portfolio across different stocks and sectors to minimize risk. I’ve heard of people accruing over $550k during recessions and inflation, its important to do your own research.

People often overlook the value of financial advisors until they experience the downside of emotional decision-making. I recall a few summers ago, after a difficult divorce, when I needed help reviving my struggling business. I did some research and found a licensed advisor who worked diligently to grow my reserves, even amid inflation. As a result, my reserves grew from $285k to around $720k.

I recently adjusted my Roth IRA to allocate 50% to SCHD, 25% to SCHX, and 25% to SCHG. In my Roth 401k, I have 70% in the Vanguard S&P 500 Index, 20% in the Vanguard Growth Index, and 10% in the Vanguard International Index. I’m looking for the most effective strategies to grow $350k into over $1 million before retirement in three years.

I'm curious, Joseph, OXLC has never made you lists (in the videos I've watched). It's not really a growth stock, but it's dividend yield is one of the highest I've found. Is there a particular reason it may not be a good buy for long-term returns? Is it's dividend just not sufficient to offset it's lack of growth?

The KEY for higher dividends (4% and above) is knowing WHY the stock is at the price it is at so that the dividend is so much higher than the average of (for instance the S&P500) it's sector or it's index that you largely work with. Along with that understanding the business and it's long term viability and payout ratio and free cash flow to cover the dividend long term.

I completely resonate with your experience. Initially, I took a DIY approach to investing, which led to some significant losses. However, after the 2020 market crash, I strategically withdrew approximately $200,000 and partnered with a professional analyst. In just seven months, that investment grew to an impressive $673,000.
