Absolutely love the Swing Quest series! I use a line on the ball for direction AND a small dot below the line for focus (line is black/dot is red). Without the dot my eyes tend to follow the putter head which results in poor distance and direction control. Cheers!

Jack Nicklaus once said that when it comes to reading a putt it is better to be decisive than to be correct. I've used that thought in my own putting and it has helped me.

Always think about listening for the ball to drop before looking towards it

This is exactly my routine and what I do. I have a dot I draw on my ball that I focus on. I don't use alignment lines. Once I set up, I stare at that dot and follow through.

Trying it tomorrow. Let's hope for the best as I'm one of those players who follow the ball to and beyond it with shouts of "wide"

Having a line drawn around the ball allows me to a) concentrate on pace as the line is already done b) gives me a very precise point on the ball to strike. I think most people get the value of (a) but don't realise they also get (b) for free. Lining your ball up can be done in a matter of seconds, since I started doing this at the start of the year my short/intermediate putting has been utterly transformed.

When I first got into the game I was taught by a good friend, (and scratch golfer) that I should not see the ball go into the hole. I should only hear the ball hit the cup with my left ear, since I'm right handed. I have always remembered this advice and now 15 years later, I'm a much better putter than any of my current group of players.

Love it Pete. I personally leave a gap between the Putter face and the ball and focus on that and don't move my head until long after. I also take 2 practice strokes looking at hole or a spot long or short depending on if it's uphill or downhill. I think most people have a fairly good Guage of speed on a perfectly flat straight putt. But struggle more when it's uphill and downhill. So looking beyond or short had really helped me maintain speed control

I think also proper alignment takes care of the line. Read it, line it up, and now it's all about getting the speed right. Seems to do me well

I got this tip last year. Mainly, picking the spot 6-12" in front of the ball and focusing only on that once you have your line. Then, it's a matter of distance control. But if you hit your mark, you can't be mad at a bad stroke. Just bad distance or bad line. I guess I missed so many putts from not knowing exactly where it was going that this really helped me.

Great tips. I fancy myself a very good putter and I do many of these things already. My routine is exactly the same every putt. I do this routine even on practice green EVERY putt. Rotella and others suggest not moving your eyes/head until you hear the sound of the ball rattling in the cup. Great content as always!

Thanks Pete. I took this lesson out on to the course yesterday and my confidence on the greens grew with every hole. The ability to approach a putt with a plan and solid technique is thrilling. Especially when my putts started to drop instead of missing left, or right. Loving the series and I’m excited to see where my golf goes after 10 years out (I now live in NZ so it’s spring here and I Have the summer to look forward too). Cheers Rob

Big Bryson follows his putter back, he does it to get the putter back to a spot he knows is the right distance for his putt. I found that works better for me too. I was a look ahead before hitting the ball and its so true what you said. The Edel looks nice 👌

Basically do everything you said Peter, but also added the ball I now use. The Srixon Divide has improved my putting stroke average for 18 holes to 22. At the beginning, the ball was a great training tool, but now it's just a normal routine to a great putting stroke every round.

Brilliant timing for me. Played 9-holes on Thursday and hit 3 pars - 2 of which I had birdie putts and missed (putted short) and one other hole I had a putt for par-4 and 2-putted for a 5. So I’ll definitely be giving this a craic next week. 👏👏

Hi Pete I tried the Speith method from one of your previous videos and work to some extent but difficult to remember each putt. I line up over a point ahead of the ball but will try to focus my eyes there now as well. Another good short video mate keep em coming😍😍. How about a video about short sided chipping over hazards, ie water and bunkers.😍

ive been trying to keep my eyes focused on the hole itself. taking a few practice swings figuring out the speed needed. and then eyes focus on the hole. making a swing as if im rolling that ball with my right hand
@jamiesloan7259

On days when I’m making a lot of putts, I’ll pick a spot about 8” in front of my line, and 100% commit everything into rolling my balling EXACTLY over that spot. Also, your setup has to match your intention perfectly. Setting up perfectly square, with eyes directly over the ball isn’t right for everyone. Shift yourself around until starting the ball over that spot looks right to you. Your eyes at address, MUST MATCH YOUR INTENT. You ever line your ball up perfectly, and then step up to your ball, and that line doesn’t look right? It’s your setup. What your eyes see from behind the ball, while lining up your putt must agree with what your eyes see when you are standing over the ball. If it doesn’t…. You’re setting yourself up for doubt, and failure.

I actually this weekend have began to hate the golf game, it’s because there is to many put it right people telling you your wrong, and I don’t mean this channel, it’s you should have this shaft, you should play with this club, this is how you hit a driver, really I’d rather stay at home than put up with the stress of playing this pissy ball to a hole

@swingquestgolf
@swingquestgolf 2 жыл бұрын
Oddly no. I always think of it like this. The golf ball doesn’t move when you are hitting it and a putting stroke is so short mistakes are limited with strike. Especially on short strokes (ie close to the hole) focusing on the target or pre target might actually help you improve distance control

I tend to do the second way - picking a spot on the green that is on my line. But I still look at the ball as if I’m putting the first way. Is that ok?
