'Desolate' is starting to feel more and more like a mix of 'S.T.A.L.K.E.R.' and Stephen King's 'The Mist' (short story or movie, take your pick). There seems to be an alien invasion going on, Half Life style with dimensional portals but also War of the Worlds with tripod robots... but at the same time animals mutate, weird alien lifeforms are seen in the mist (Lanky), supernatural evil is haunting places and weird cocoons and crystals are growing from the Earth. Is that island a Hellmouth? Basically, the developers are throwing in everything and the kitchen sink from every supernatural/alien horror movie and video game that came before.
