Most of the talk here is about the vinegar, but baking powder and bicarbonate of soda on their own are great cleaners. Either one works well if you've got something badly burned onto a saucepan or frying pan. Put a tiny amount of water in the pan and then sprinkle on the powder and let it sit. The dirtier it gets in colour, the more it's reacted to the burned material. After a short while, you can just wipe the burned stuff off easily - no scrubbing. If the pan is just blackened, but with nothing cooked on, vinegar is better. It dissolves the blackening and leaves the pan like new.

Vinegar is an acid, but pretty mild and safe. It's effective on hard water deposits because it basically melts them. If you scout around your grocery store in the cleaning aisle, you'll find cleaning vinegar much cheaper than dietary (eatin' vinegar is 5% concentration; cleaning is 6%). Be a little careful slinging the stuff around because, mild it is, but acid it is. BTW, a drop of vinegar, applied to automobile window washer sprayer, will take off hard water salts. Rinse thoroughly after a few minutes, and keep the vinegar off any other surface (I use a toothpick to wet the sprayer).

Can someone please explain to me why everyone mixes baking soda and vinegar together and then cleans with it? I mean, after they are mixed, you neutralize them and you are pretty much left with salt water. I can see polishing or scrubbing with baking soda, and trying to break stuff down with the acidity of vinegar...but why mix them? Fizzing and foaming does not inherently mean you are cleaning. @africansnowqueen do not use vinegar on granite. The acid in the vinegar breaks down natural stone. Alcohol must be at least 70 percent Alcohol to kill germs so buy 70 percent and you don't have to dilute with water. Add 5 drops of dish soap, shake together,.

Priceless how these everyday methods of our mothers' and grandmothers' generations come back as "secret recipes" (and I'm not talking about this video, it's cool - but a lot of other sitees where these methods are presented as sensational new ideas) - I'm not even that old, and I remember regularly using stuff like vinegar, lemon juice and baking soda to clean and descale bathroom surfaces and make metal surfaces shine in the 70"s and 80's And not because they were hip, but because there were few really useful cleaning detergents aand limescale solvents in the shops. But that's life: everyday methods and tricks sink to the bottom, and some eventually come back up ;)

This doesn't work. Plus, it messes up the rubber stopper in the tank so it leaks and makes your toilet run constantly.
@GrnXnham5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, most of the cleaners that you put in the tank with the hopes it will clean the toilet with each flush, will destroy the plastic parts in your tank. Doing things the lazy way when it comes to cleaning your toilet can lead to more work/hassle than if you just got out the scrubber and cleaned your toilet.

@@janelouw402 omgoodness I found out why vinegar is "perfect". Mann that shit is dope to be real. You know the dye on brand new clothes that gets on your shoes or body? Well if you wash your clothes in vinegar it sets the dye so that doesn't happen. Well if this is true, then I would imagine the color would stay longer. And it reduces wrinkles and helps with smells like sweat. Blah blah. I guess that's coo too tho.

I've been using white vinegar, not the cleaning vinegar, for about 30 years. We've never had problems with the seals or the septic. It gets rid of oders and the vinegar smell doesn't linger. I trust it as a disenfectant. Bleach stinks for a long time and I'm really afraid to use it, so I don't.
@gordonadams58916 жыл бұрын
The foaming action is the result of alkaline baking soda neutralizing acidic vinegar. A better result is to place baking soda in the toilet bowl, stir it into solution then add the vinegar.
