Former 11B and I want to shout out the cooks. After days of eating nothing but MRE’s they pulled up in a couple of humvee’s with hot food and it made everything alright. I never looked down on another MOS after that. Every job is vital, no one is better than the other. We were all soldiers.

One of my best friends was a cook (I'm 96R for comparison). We were joking around at a BBQ, I asked him "hey Mike, you ever kill anybody?" He sips his beer, looks my younger nephew dead in the eye (kid was eating ribs he cooked) and says, "I was a cook. So yeah, probably." I've never seen a kid go ghost white so fast. Cooks have the best humor 🤣😂🤣😂

Patton would have been president, Peterson, Navy young man during the fu fu show in California during WWII. I prayed for One Star at Davis Monthan Air Force Base 1989 (I sang for a 4 star private 3 table 12 seater ) Finally in 2018! I gave the same letter to him and his wife and Paul Bowls. Paul Bowls told me to meet with a song lyrics man called Burrows. He told me Paul Bowls said "She talks a good game let's see what she can do" Burrows said "That's the reaction I want to see. Now you need to give him your singing tape, shake hands and say "after you have listened to this tape in 24 hours, please return this tape directly to me and shake 🤝 my hands, okay? 🆗 That is what I did and all letters requesting my singing went to Mr Paul Bowls. 2nd in charge called me in and said the requests didn't need to go thru Paul Bowls at all and I told him yes they do! That's not fair to Wally Cruger because he is my boss. I'm not a wild cannon when it comes to Wally Cruger. I have so much respect for him(My Lazefaire , hands off, let the workers figure it out, like my dad Lt Col Donald Fredrick Barris taught me in 1963 and every year after that!) "If it's not broke DON'T FIX IT!". Daughter taught everyday " don't talk to the colts or generals. Okay! Running rec cuter is where the inspector generals go and I never talked to them, mind you. The secretaries helped me more than any boss EXCEPT Charlie Quinn navy WWII taught me time cards manually And one year and 5 year budgets. Even Al García secretary punched the numbers and I never had to go to the head shed at Ft Huachuca MWR office in 1987 even after Hugh Barris Ybarra was born at Tucson medical 18 June 1987. I lived with Lt Col Harvey and Vonnie Haynes in Carr canyon near ft huachuca and the Blimp for maybe 9 months. The only friend I had was Al García secretary. I can't remember her name..she always had me over for dinner. A black suiter requested to use the phone "I asked for his id card and said step this way and take as long as you like.". He was on only 15 minutes and came out and thanked me. Quite a gentleman as I walked him out the door.🤠 Two weeks latter a 3 or 4 page letter with a letter thanking me for letting him use the phone with generals upon generals. WOW 😳 just for using the phone? It was an honor! Love you kind military. Then I got sent to Washington DC for 7 weeks leaving my son Hugh Barris Ybarra. I did it and loved all the WWII music in the elevators, seeing all the sights, Vietnam Wall crying with you quietly. Investigators, black suiters suspenders...it made me PROUD for All of 'ONE'S'....when I got home I bought navy background green horse head 🐴 suspenders when I order my Mamá or Skipp's Oreo. I, also, very gratefully say thank you, to these fine & stalwart gentlemen (Apache pilots), as well as to those wonderful friends of ours in the "Chair Force" (the only personnel in the Air Force that I give any respect or props to, in terms of being out there and "digging in the fight"), who pilot those b*d*ss A-10 Warthogs! While I was on the ground in Fallujah, around the end of summer of '03, we happened to get temporarily pinned down by a handful of guys (5 or 6, I didn't have eyes enough to confirm the exact count) on the 2nd floor of the building next to us, while we were walking down this road - almost side alleyway. The LT was calling in support, expecting for possibly another proximity unit to reply - if there were anybody in position to have eyes on them. Fortunately for us, there happened to be Apache support, which I had heard flying in the general area of Fallujah, but was unaware was available for us (prior to that instance, those type assets had been reserved for SOCOM Ops - for all I know, one could have also been happening elsewhere in Fallujah, at the same time), which the pair of them arrived to us in like 20 seconds or from when the Lt told us we had support in route. As they arrived, those handful of guys on the 2nd floor were firing down on us, and the Apaches had come in so quick & lit up that 2nd floor that it was almost over before I could shout while they were firing on them. Two of our guys were hit when those guys on the 2nd floor first opened up, thankfully, and thanks to those 2 Apache Pilots, those were the only two injured we had.

I served as a 92Y Unit Supply Specialist, proudly supporting my fellow soldiers, particularly the 11B Infantrymen, throughout my ten-year military career. I had the privilege of working with various units, including aviation, chemical, and transportation. However, serving as support on the front lines was the most rewarding experience of my career. When my unit was deployed in the field, they never lacked anything. I recall an instance when my battalion Command Sergeant Major was searching for me for over a week while we were in the field. Unlike other unit supply representatives who stayed in hard buildings with air conditioning and showers, I chose to stay with my company in the field. I attended a Battalion S4 meeting one day, covered in dirt and unkempt. My S4 NCOIC was furious, noting my disheveled appearance. However, my company commander laughed and explained that, unlike the others, I had been out in the field with my company, enduring the same conditions. Whenever my unit faced challenges, I was right there with them, sharing their experiences. They allowed me to cross-train with them, often remarking that I wasn't like the average supply specialist. They respected me and would stand up for me whenever needed. "Bravo Company Bayonets!" Ft. Stewart 1-64AR HOOAH! SSG Staley, RET

It’s damn nice to hear the 11 Bravos be shouted out by a Marine like that. Army, Navy, Air Force, whatever…. We all have an unspoken respect for each other. We may talk shit to each other every time we interact, but the unspoken respect and the need for fellow brothers in arms will never die. This is awesome. Go America.

Real man. I’m not enlisted, but I’m preparing myself for it. I’m well researched, and definitely know about the jokes between branches, but I also know that every single guy can joke like that because they all have that mutual respect and love for each other. With everything going on in the country, it can be hard to stay patriotic, but it’s moments like these that remind us what America is all about. Dedication, respect, faith, love, and most importantly, freedom. God bless America.

11b here as well. Love my marine infantryman. We went down to Kandahar from wardak back in 11 and they were going through it. Lost a couple guys. I was blessed to go out on patrol and gun some dudes down with them. I remember us sitting back and looking up at the stars, smelling like ass, them telling me about their fallen brothers and me telling them about mine. Shed a tear hugged and kept it pushing. Shout-out to all my brothers that are fighting the fight and those who fought the good fight and are waiting for us with a 5th of vodka on the other side. Love you all.

Just see what their response is. As soon as they hear you say, I'm American, I'm gay, I'm non-binary, I'm Christian, or I'm (anything other than a shite muslim), they will stop listening and put you in a cave and start the torture. The People you just advocated for hate you, I know they hate you without knowing anything about you because they will persecute you simply for being a westerner. You know absolutely nothing about what you speak. Those of us who have been there and have made it back home find it incredibly insulting when folks like yourself act like you know what you're talking about because you heard one side of the story 10 years ago. When I was younger, I was fascinated and wanted to join the military. As I got closer to it I came to the conclusion that I’m not built for it, and chose a different path. I had the idea in mind that not all warriors at heart need to enlist, not to talk myself out of it but to acknowledge that I don’t have the strength these guys do, and turned whatever weakness I felt I had into a strength to try and help people. @@robertlambert4514 Please answer the following question for me: Why does the United States Marine Corps allow the NCO who is speaking in this video to have an exposed and publicly visible tattoo on his left fore arm? In the old days the US Army and the Marine Corps the tattoos had to be hidden under your uniform and they would not allow you to get a publicly visible tattoo on your fore arm because getting a tattoo on your forearm was considered to be "poor military bearing" and "bad for unit discipline" where the publicly visible tattoo might serve as an unnecessary distraction that might or might not encourage or discourage a lack of unit cohesion. In the old days the tattoos had to be hidden under your uniform, and in the old days you would not be allowed to wear all of your Kirk Hammett lip rings in uniform, and in the old days you couldn't get your entire face tattooed up with Metallica tattoos on your cheeks and chin and forehead or whatever it is that the NCO's are doing now. At least I thought this was a funny post but not if anyone else laughed.

He asked me what I did, and I told him my job is to get equipment to the aircraft so they can insure they are good to take off. "You ever work with the A10" with the biggest smile on his face, I told him yea many times, and the thanks that soldier showed me made me instantly put pride in my job that never diminished. No job is pointless. They all hold an impact on the mission. I'm just glad I learned that early.

Thanks AF brother for ur insight. My era precedes yours as I served during the Cold War and was hurt prior to the Kuwait War. Disabled veteran today. To your well told point it IS ALL ABOUT THE PLANES in the AF. Some members of other branches of the service get it, some don't. While I was active duty I worked in CES. Climate control is critical for aircraft sitting in hangers like the SR71. Equally as critical for SATCOM satellite computer systems. Had a Vietnam War veteran as a neighbor off base. His pre PTSD era "shell shock" was so bad so the point he couldn't drive, nor could he probably afford a car bcs of having no VA disability benefits - so I'd drive him to the grocery store weekends . He thanked ME for my service as a Cold War active duty serviceman.......I thought it was crazy, and told him I'm just in the AF. He said that if it weren't for those B52s bombing the jungle, and the air support, he would've never made it out. He understood it tho. That was 40 years ago, but I never forgot, and relish his memory. He was a hero - RIP to him.

I’m a retired airborne infantryman. CIB, EIB, Purple Heart. This dude is speaking facts and he’s absolutely right, a positive mental attitude and camaraderie will take you far. Be in the right place, right time, right uniform, pay attention to detail. I was an NCO in 2 years by being proactive and proficient at my job. Also, shout out to this Marine for actually talking about Army infantry as well. I worked side by side with the II MEF in Anbar and we got along and worked together great. Our skills really complemented each other when we did joint operations. Most of the people talking shit about one or the other are usually POGS or not even combat veterans themselves. The guys that actually put in work have respect for one another. There will also be fuckery and joking but at the end of the day, everyone plays a part.
