Perhaps boaters have forgotten Lorna a qualified boat inspector, under the BSS, affiliated with CRT. Suggesting Lorna needs help from a "man" is bordering on being sexist. Get three cardboard boxes from somewhere. One marked 'Kitchen' with all you'll need in the galley, a smaller box marked 'Bathroom' for all your bathroom supplies & another marked 'Supplies' for dried & tinned food to take on-board. Much cheaper than buying any of it once on the cut.

I hope the hypothetical delivery of the boat happens and goes smoothly. Definitely would ask a friend, who is experienced in boating, to travel with me on the maiden voyage. Stock the kitchen, bathroom essentials, bedding, and all the little comforts of home you will want to have when you have on had when traveling on your boat.

I'm probably not the best person to ask as I'd just get some cat food, a cat bed and maybe another cat. Please please please Aintree boats, give Lorna her boat and a massive discount to say sorry for the late delivery. So lovely to see you and your cat together.

Hypothetically, if they had been through the experience that you have shared. I would suggest that just in case, put together a legal team and explore the possibilities of claiming the vessel, moving it to another boatyard that could complete the outstanding work and of course acting on that legal advice be prepared to sue them for every penny you can. But of course that is just hypothetical as I'm sure that in just one week the champagne bottle will be breaking on the bow🤞🤞. But just in case.......

I think I'd do more or less what you said you would! And I guess I would check the equipment I'd already bought to bring on the boat and see if there was some important item that I had missed for some reason ... And then - - - just hope it will come to pass!

Get the toolbox ready and get spare parts for critical (engine) items (belts, impellers, oil, hoseclamps, fuses). Also emergency leak kit with bungs etc.

How would I prepare? Based on the track record of your boat order with this particular boat builder, if they say delivery in a week, I would prepare to wait longer. 😂 But I would get the insurance sorted, and maybe ask a few different companies for quotes.

As already said I would get someone else to video it so you can concentrate on the actual taking delivery . Maybe let us know when and where so we can surround the place until they actually finish it.

I can only think of really boring things. Have a bit of a declutter. Get all my laundry done. Make sure I have a working kettle. Pack everything that is coming with me that I don't need over the next week. Pack a box of stuff I might need straight away: toilet roll, tea bags, sugar, something easy to make and eat, maybe some biscuits. Also some cleaning supplies like cloths, surface cleaner etc. Overnight bag/backpack for nightclothes and wash bag, plus a phone charger/battery pack, paperwork etc.

I think i would leave it there for six months and block there workshop up and dont answer the phone to them!Well iam a scorpio and we dont get even we have revenge,but thats me!I do hope you get your boat in a week after all there failures to deliver! All the best!

All those legal things you mentioned - did you say CRT licence? Galley utensils and pantry supplies (non perishable - dont be too cocky) Toolbox Bathroom & bedroom essentials Last minute a loaf of bread and block of cheese, packet of tea bags as bait for #1 helper Large container for rabbits foot, four leaved clover, crystals, dreamcatcher, feng shui book and anything else to bring good luck. Maybe invest in (or borrow) a black cat or simply dye the one you have

Obtain the right size gas bottles if needed. Acquire a minimum also amount of resources for the crew picking it up - more can be purchased later when you are near shops and can see what is needed and you have space for. A tool box. Check the the fuel tank has more than a minimal amount of fuel in it!

. Make sure you are given the engine HIN plate, boat user manual, beta engine manual and gearbox manual. The engine manual is issued with the correct serial number attached. . Make sure you remember that the domestic battery only charges from shore line when the inverter/charger master switch is ON. . Make sure also to check bolts for tightness on all the battery and alternator leads. . Learn to adapt to smaller water and diesel tanks than you are probably used to. . Make sure you have at least one genuine CRT-issued BWB key: the not-quite-correct knock-off that comes with the boat will only work in 98% of facilities. . Expect some aspect of the boat to be not quite finished, or missing some cruising equipment at first. . Be sure to remember that whatever happens you will love your cute little boat. . And check the battery lead tightness again after the first (non-free) service at 100 hours. Ask me how I know!

getting rid of a LOT of stuff, making sure all the legal stuff is sorted. buying bedding and cushions possibly a lamp or 2. taking a trip to ikea or somewhere like that looking for wall mounted storage to keep everywhere clutter free. buying any boater items that dont come with the boat and a tool kit. getting the cat a vet check up. packing things away. getting some gas or coal or whatever fuel the boat needs sorted. any security items you need and if you want internet onboard then getting all the bits for the connection

I would prepare mentally for many quality issues, as there are in new products that are in very small series or even one-off's like yours. Make an inventory off all issues, and choose calm and collective if you want the yard to fix them or if you can live with it. Do not let the issue keep you from being happy with your boat. Everything is fixable.

Finger, arm, legs and anything else that can cross, would be crossed. Hope they give you, at least, a complimentary tank of fuel for the delays. Very best of luck. Its been tortuous for us waiting to see the boat on the water, must have been so much worse for you. Definitely get David along, even to do a vlog with you, so we get 2 vlogs 🙂 and I am sure he can help with what's what when taking delivery of your boat. I expect he will be champing at the bit 🙂

Hypothetically my fingers are crossed for you, as a person that was given a delivery date a year ago and still waiting, id half expect a last minute delivery delay. Maybe id want the date in writing with a compensation clause should there be any further delays. But on a more serious note, on a now boat, break down cover, even though im not impressed by RCR, they are the only option so better than no cover. A stash of comfort food, hot chocolate, crisps, chocolates etc,.. Diesel boiler tested and running for you, along with a full handover demo from builder, everything from lights, to pumps to turning breakers off and on, or putting a large load on inverter to make sure it doesn't go pop with a kettle etc... But good luck, lorna, not that you need it, and maybe we’ll see you on the water in a week or so

Have Pearsons Guide dedicated as the “ships log” - with very brief notes (I use micro post-it notes …..so they are removable) to indicate where the boat is moored each night and/or occasional comments each week/month as to the trip. I also note where/when on the network I take on fuel, water, gas etc….

Given I live in Missouri, my getting a new narrowboat is very much hypothetical! 😁 Our little town is on the Missouri River and I'm pretty sure the river flow usually moves at a speed above a narrowboat's top speed, at least that's the impression gained from watching driftwood go downriver.

On a serious note: If the friendly feline will be going aboard, 😸get some sturdy fabric their claws can grab and secure it in a location where if cat falls overboard cat can swim to the fabric and climb back aboard. Also research life vests for pets, and note those need a different placement of flotation than life vests for us humans do.

Yes! My first thoughts were for getting the "boaty" stuff, fenders, boat hook, life ring, windlass, lines, mooring pins and mallet, boarding plank (whatever those are called), tool kit, spare parts and filters, non perishable food stores to have on hand, then the normal things you get when moving in to any new home.

It's only needed a weeks work for about the last 6 months and it's about 18 months late. Other boats from the same yard appear to have been started finished and delivered in the same time period. (Timings are approximate )
