The Government is expected to spend around £260 billion pounds on benefits this financial year. That covers Universal Credit, child welfare. housing and disability benefits.
Do you think the money is going to the right people?
Or do we need a new way of deciding who gets what?
Perhaps you'd put limits on benefits for those seeking work?
Or maybe you'd remove the two-child cap on benefits?
Or have you come up with something nobody has thought of yet?

Making sickness disability hard to get would make people not sick enough to get benefit, but not healthy enough to actually attain a job. It is just a stealth way of not paying sickness benefit. The work capability assessment is stringent enough as it is. Making disability hard to get is also making more people apply for pip, actually costing more money. I.e. people did not previously apply for pip. It is forcing people to apply for pip .

Ron from Surrey People on the lower wages are not paid enough to cover all their bills a worker would need at least £35,000 a year to pay for all their needs. I am sick of Pensioners being vilified my husband and I worked over 50 years and paid into the system it’s not our fault that Governments didn’t prepare for us retiring. I hope none of you on this panel ever get a serious illness that forces you to seek benefit help, believe me they are not easy to get at all. Unless you arrive here as an illegal immigrant then you will get benefits no problem the DWP have been told to fast track immigrants who present with PTSD and interpreter and a worker at the DWP told us that they are coaching each other on how to present with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder as DWP have been told to fast track them for housing and benefits.Yet people born here can’t get a home. Immigrants are the real cause of the spike in people claiming benefits. We can’t keep blaming the British sick and disabled we need to stick to the facts and stop giving benefits and homes to illegal immigrants

Yea right will we bugger seems the government will do anything for illegals yet when it comes to our own nope we are left to fend for ourselves I watched a KZbin video from an auditor who went to a migrant charity and he asked a valid question would they help someone that's from here if they needed help and an elderly English person who runs it says to him "no sorry our charity only help the migrants" this is what's wrong with our country do gooders and the government would rather our own be left on a street corner in the freezing cold and starving

unpaid carers should get a lot more money it would cost the country a lot more if they had to look after these disabled people themselves. Also 2 child cap is disgusting if you are working and then lose your job the government is basically saying only 2 of your children can eat !!

The goverment should make employer give proper full time and part time jobs again, get rid of 0 hour contracts and 10hrs then bartering for overtime if your not liked you dont get any but the company says you cant have a second job because they may need you. Workers have no rights any more we will work till we drop!

Extending the state pension age to 68 means that many older people with age related conditions have no other option but to claim sickness related benefits. This means more money spent on medical assessments, work coaches and schemes. Many won't make it to pension age anyway. Reduce the pension age to 60 for those who have long term illness or disability. It is unlikely these people will be reliable.

Thats not true I am partially sighted hard of hearing and joint pain work full time and barely have any time off im 62 but I feel its wrong to make people work beyond 65 unless they want to, there would then be more jobs for younger people.
@melodyscarlett
@melodyscarlett 9 күн бұрын
@@kristinamasters1663 I disagree. While you may still be able to see, wear a hearing aid and have a few aches and pains that aren't really that bad, other people are not so lucky. You obviously cope very well, you don't need support, you can happily hold down a job. However others are not so lucky. Age related conditions like early onset dementia (often first diagnosed as depression) arthritis, osteoporosis, will make movement very painful and cause stiffness to the point of not being able to mobilise at all. Of course anyone over 60 who wants to work should be able to. But, we need to accept that it is unlikely that over 60s with serious long term health conditions, even when forced by work coaches will not be able to reliably hold down a job. This will be a problem for co-workers having to cover for them, bosses who don't want unreliable employees and clients who require excellent services and products.

I wouldn’t have benefits. I’d have a universal income and a standard 25% tax on absolutely everything except basic food items. That way all people pay taxes, wealthy included. Anyone who needs special exceptions because of some special requirements they would be assessed on a case by case by more than one person or group.l (doctors, psychologists etc).

Benefits is only half of the problem. We need to have a proper conversation about the price of rent and housing, it is the biggest outgoing of anyone's income. Indirectly landlords and Banks are the biggest recipients of benefits. This needs to be tackled to bring the benefits bill down.

I get the highest rate pip after virtually died after I had a large gallstone get stuck in my pancreatic duct causing the pancreas to go necrotic I spent 8 months in Liverpool royal hospital who specialise in pancreatic issues and in their ICU they had to remove 85% of the pancreas and remove massive amount of infected fluid and because I spent so long at hospital I lost virtually all my muscle mass leaving me unable to walk far and on.life long medication for life at 10 pancreatic enzyme replacement capsules with every meal and snack for life to digest my food and they left a hot axios stent in my dundenum to allow fluid to continuously drain in my stomach i was warned i can never do any manual work as it could collapse the fisure and migrate the stent which will kill me but i tell you this if there was a choice between getting back to full health and going back to work which i was full time before i got ill or keep getting pip i know what i would choose i wouldn't wish my illness and disability on anyone i would love to be working again I miss it so much but right now I know I can't 😢😢😢

Let me guess, found fit for work and scored zero points by private company at a 'fitness' assessment? The right wing just love to blame the poor, sick and vulnerable while the wealthy and powerful rob them blind and point at an immigrant.

Even Elon Musk tells us that the old days of full-time waged work is never coming back because AI soft and hard is the preferred worker that is more effective. You are all living in yesterday, in about 1976! If people cannot spend, then businesses and supply chains will start to collapse. What does anyone else think? What do people do when AI soft and hard is doing most of the work? Thank goodness, the governments do have the right to create at will investment and/or grant. An explosion of artists and persons who look after local environment? Lifelong learning ? We have to change what we do to fit the new paradigm.

H G Wells writing at the end of the 19th century envisaged that as work became automated people would only need to work for 2-4 hours a week. The rest of the time people would devote themselves to the arts, science and social projects. We are at that turning point but we need to divest ourselves of the Victorian work ethic and blaming the poor for being poor. I’m all for giving everyone a set sum each month. If they want to work to top it up then all well and good.

Benefits should be stopped if you can work and choose not to, its not a life style choice, as other people have to go out to work and pay tax for people on benefits. That's not saying genuine people who need help should not receive benefits. Its those that are lazy and want to sit at home and chill, that we need to seek out and make them pay there way.

The idea that people ‘choose’ not to work is nothing but a fallacy so the general public will report or be cruel to those who don’t fit in a box of ‘ideal disability’.

Indeed, it's just crippling the billionaires who've doubled their wealth in the past decade. Perhaps we should give them more of a tax cut and let them abuse workers even more, and allow them to cut safety standards for their products, by voting Reform.
