I want to say thanks for all the good info. You inspired me to buy tools and replace my oil filter housing gasket, pulley's and belt, and given me the confidence to fix things I never thought I would be able to. In the process I broke my radiator (plastic cracked) but I was able to buy a new one and install it. BMW Doctor is the best!

100% correct as usual. I changed the oil to 5w-40 as you recommended and haven’t lost a drop of oil after 3000k when i was putting in a quart of oil a month before going by factory recommendation.

Not sure it this is normal on the N52.When l check the oil in the morning there's no milky substance. Once l drive it and check the oil theres very little milky substance on the bottom of the dipstick and on the top of dipstick. ls this normal?

I can confirm switching to 5w40 dramatically reduced oil consumption on my n52... Before i was using Castrol 5w30 And i had to top up every 1000km 1L. Now i have 5w40 liqui molly And i'm over 3000km without adding any oil.

Your car is diesel? Be careful if you have a particle filter.. You had to choose oil with ll04. If not, some day your filter are blocked.

For N46 the BMW spec is 5w30 or 5w40, if 5w40 results in less oil burn, and there is no trade-off, then why would they also list 5w30? Or is there a trade-off to using 5w40, I saw somewhere they said that 5w30 will circulate better and therefore provide (somewhat) better protection.

James from the United States posting here. Try a product called. Go nmf. Friction reducer. You going to see that the vanos is going to be a lot more happy and will last longer the car will also sound different when you go to start it up. And don't be surprised that the car goes into boost a lot quicker. Seriously. Great product...

I run Shell Rotella T6 5w-40 in an m54 engine ... it's an oil for diesel engines but it runs great and it reduced oil consumption to near zero. Used oil analysis shows that after 7.5k miles Rotella keeps a thicker viscosity than the Castrol 0w-40 euro oil (LL-01) at 7.5k miles.

My N54 just got some new twins. Before that, it didn't burn oil...could check it after 1,000-5,000 and it would show full in the digital display. Now, it seems to be down about a quarter every few hundred miles. And that is using Liquid Molly 5w-40.

hate to see people spending big money on extra quality oil just to drive slower than the speed limit in most places; if you need to add some oil, just **ADD** it; it's cheap, it´s not like filling up the tank !! i refuse to rebuild customer's engines just because they use 1 quart every couple of thousand miles (that is AFTER i fixed the breather system,and the rings/bores are a bit worn,but that being the only --problem-- ...)

Please please help me ! I have BMW 320D 2013, N47C . I always smell burning oil smell from the airconditioner, especially when the engine temperature is between 70 and 100 degrees or when I first turn the engine on. The smell goes after one or two minutes then. I always change engine oil, engine oil filter and cabin filter each 5,000 km. My car only ran for 56,0200 km so far. I had a technician checked the entire car, but he found no issues in the fuel injectors or any other part. I still smell burning oil ....what's the problem ?

F10 523i n53b30 on 5w40 is perfect, no oil consumption and runs verry smooth. I change the oil and filter every year after 6000 km . Car has done 150.000 km So i agree that oilchanges are more importand as everybody thinks.......

Anyone help! I bought BMW E90 325i (N52B25) engine in it, I have massive oil consumption since I bought it. The next things are changed: - PCV valves - Oil separator - Gasket - Disa valves Still losing insane 1l of oil every 300-400 miles! I have abnormally thick white smoke coming out of my exhaust.. I am afraid that piston rings are in bad condition, but what confuses me is that my separator was full of oil even after changing it.. Any advice from anyone?

Local mechanics don’t have a clue about because 90% are of people are driving bloody diesel. 😂 I will try this and change to 5w40 immediately. I have a question off subject I would like too pick your brains on and help with please. I’m about too move too a 335d xdrive. Is it possible too change the paddles on the steering wheel to be like the one used in the e90 335d were 1 paddle can go up and down the gearbox. But this method or mod too work on a f30 335d. I use mobility hand controls on the right push too brake pull too accelerate. So would like too keep left hand on steering wheel and if it’s possible too do go up and down the box in sport + which just one paddle. Many thanks I know it’s off subject.
