I was looking at one of those inverters but chose a growatt. I wonder if your pv input current limit is an actual limit or just what the inverter can use. The renogy rover li 60a mppt i use can have extra current going in and it'll clip excess and use the max to get 60a output, great for cloudy days.

Problems with unit, when on battery it won’t charge from ac. So when charging on ac and you have a max ac charge set(let’s say 10) and a max combined (say 60), and solar maxed out, result, regardless of the ac current set it will still charge at the combined max current rate! When you attach AC it automatically diverted the loads to grid and then wants to charge at max current when solar is present

Just out of curiosity is there some kind of efficiency bonus to getting a similar or higher voltage than the voltage on the output of your inverter? I know DC to DC a buck converter is more efficient but I don’t know how inverters work. I know Will preaches higher voltage=thinner gauge wire for the same kw output and with 4/0 at like $5 a foot that adds up quick when you can run EVERYTHING on 2AWG if you stay under 125 Amps. 48V batteries (40V to 58V) will still be fine if you’re with at the bottom of the voltage and trying to push 5000W but you might want to bump that up to 1/0. Does anyone really have a need for transferring more than 5kw on these kinds of systems?
@SiriusSolar
@SiriusSolar 2 жыл бұрын
@@ericklein5097 yes there are some efficiency gained by having your battery voltage closer to your ac voltage. But I think there's bigger gains to be had elsewhere like in the quality of the components and design. My 6 KW inverter uses between 15 and 30 idle consumption which I think is pretty freaking good compared to anything else I've ever seen for a 6 KW inverter.
@SiriusSolar
@SiriusSolar 2 жыл бұрын
@@ericklein5097 But the AC waveform does go from zero up to 120 and back and forth so it's not just cut and dry like use a 120 volt battery. In fact the AC waveform goes far higher than 120. The 120 is just sort of like the average voltage. It actually gets up 170 volts at the top of the wave.

Man you are talented with this and i could sure use some advice on my 3000 watt powmr all in one. Do you know how the ground neautral bonding works with this unit? I have a 30 amp female camper plug in the ac output. I have my camper plugged into it. I have my house wired into the ac input. Any suggestions on this is greatly appreciated. Thankyou

I think you missed my question last time I asked. If the camper is plugged into the inverter and the inverter is plugged into the house does that eliminate the stray voltage? Aka does the unit need to be grounded instead of floating.

@@BeeneEnergyyes camper plugged into inverter and inverter plugged into house. It has stray voltage into camper frame. It doesn't matter if it's plugged into house or unplugged it still has stray voltage into camper frame. I'm sure it's something with inverter because if I plug camper directly into house the camper frame is no longer got the 40 volts going thru it. I might need to bond the neutral to the ground but I didn't want the ground loop thing I see so much about. I'm kinda thinking it needs the ground neutral bond and I think it might be an open neutral or open ground even while the inverter is plugged into the house. I figured it would use the house ground but it doesn't seem to be grounded at all even when in bypass or solar or battery mode. It's all extremely confusing to me but hopefully before long I can get it together without shocking me when it rains lol. I'm kinda scared of the ac side of things but I gotta get this figured out. On a string of panels at or near 450vdc going to a growatt 5000es. would you ground the array and mount to ground rod? Also fuse/breaker the positive and negative pv wires or just the positive to isolate the rest of the system from lightning or an electrical short in the array? Inline fuses or breakers?
@BeeneEnergy
@BeeneEnergy 2 жыл бұрын
My understanding is that a ground mount array should be grounded to its own ground rod. It would not share a ground with the inverter. I believe that would be panels plus ground mount. Fuse/breaker is only there for convenience, with a single string you’ll never see more than the short circuit current rating of the panels. Lightning arrestor? That would be a fair question I don’t have an answer to. The breaker I’m using does break both positive and negative of the solar string. No specific reason for it though I’ve noticed that solar disconnects tend to do that so there’s probably a reason.

All inverters have some type of idle consumption. Generally it's linear with how large of an inverter it is. 3kw Powmr's that I've measured have been around 45w and 5kw like this unit about 60 watts at idle. I've got some nicer Megarevo 8KW hybrid inverters that are a little better at ~75 watts. @@BeeneEnergy The batteries mostly... did you build them yourself to get 100ah for the cost you stated just over $300 ? Because I do believe you would only own quality products and I'd like to buy 6pcs or more of a 100ah LiFeP04 that is only 300ish.

@@SailProMarina These batteries have a single problem that I observed. In that the cells weren’t properly balanced when assembled. Regardless I still tested full capacity in the video I did last month on them. Hence me having them in a video. I absolutely don’t want to suggest anything that is sub par, but since these did live up to their capacity claims it seemed fair to use them. I’ve got a link to eBay down in the description, I get a little kickback if you buy through it. Certainly happy to know what people are skeptical about though because if I can curate videos that address more concerns it’s better for you which means it’s better for me.

I'm really not sure. I suspect all of the portable systems out there keep it under 150v partly for this reason. So that it's easier to keep things isolated and not cause buzzing of the people.

@BeeneEnergy 2 жыл бұрын
I don’t have an installation video of this one, no. Did the other 240v inverter have a ground on the ac input side? Sometimes they only have the terminal there. I’ve found that if there is an input and output ground they are electrically the same.
@diysolaradventures7894
@diysolaradventures7894 2 жыл бұрын
@@BeeneEnergy yes the inverter has 3 ac inputs ground neutral and line and the output has only neutral and line does this mean the whole box has to be grounded or something and is neutral basically line 2 ? Or considered line 1 and the line is considered line 2
@BeeneEnergy
@BeeneEnergy 2 жыл бұрын
@@diysolaradventures7894 I believe with 240v units there is just one line. Other is neutral. There are apparently some differences in ground that can be gotcha’s if trying to use that in North America. Possible neutral and ground are bonded inside the inverter? I think the idea is that the inverter would be grounded through the input side to the grid. Don’t know for sure.

@@BeeneEnergy oh ok what if I'm not using the grid for now should I ground the case I'm running the neutral and the line to a solar edge tx5000 Midpoiny transformer then from the transformer to a ground on neutral subpanel so I will have 120 AC

POWMR - cheap short-lived Chinese products with zero maintenance and service. A clone of Voltronic products, made without quality control, with cheap components and ugly soldering. @@BeeneEnergy When buying, I was in a hurry, I had to reserve the power supply for the country house for the New Year holidays. And I reasoned as usual with any Chinese product - it will break - and I will buy another one, because it is cheap! But I realized my mistake when I saw a smoking appliance in a wooden house. It might not be so cheap if we weren't at home! And then the mockery of the Chinese, when they offered to make idiotic manipulations with the device themselves, as if they could bring it back to life. And then they just started ignoring me. Thank God the whole lesson was inexpensive and now I look only towards the brands that you yourself named.
