As others have said, the SSDs aren't sold separately, BUT people are already soldering larger NANDs onto them, so I expect Aliexpress to sell cheap high capacity SSDs in the near future, as well as local repair shops maybe offering similar services. And harvesting these modules from broken Mac Minis will be a big business as well.

Apple has been recommended by the EU to make its devices more repairable. In my opinion, in a few years, when the Mini M4 will be at the end of its life cycle, Apple will turn a blind eye if a third party builds a compatible SSD module for the mini M4, not before. However, for the next few years it will be obliged to provide original spare parts, unfortunately for us at a high price.

256gb is criminal as of today. This isn’t your phone where you install a couple of apps that take up few megabytes. This is a computer that is meant to run desktop softwares. Softwares that are literally gigabytes in size. To top that off, Mac OS itself and Apple Intelligence language models will be saved on it. You will only have about 150-180GB of usable space. Install maybe 6-7 softwares, store your photos and videos and suddenly you have a low memory warning. Not to mention that if you fill up your storage >90% it’s only a matter of time before the NAND starts corrupting itself. And suddenly all your data is gone.

The downside with Apple is the storage capacity..You can't install a regular Nvme inside it..

Wish people would stop saying it’s upgradable because it isn’t. Just because you can remove it suddenly everyone loses their minds. Also no 3rd party SSD upgrades for the Mac Studio and it’s been years.

Valid point, But atleast it's somewhat upgradeable A guy named dosdude1 replaced the nands & upgraded the storage from 256 to 1TB & it cost him 90$ (so it's something)

Why no one is talking about screws of cpu heat sink being on upper-side of mac mini chassis. You have to take whole motherboard out of the box and tear down copper shield to change the thermal paste.

With regard to the power switch- would it be possible to move it to the space in the aluminium casing above the switch on the back of the casing? I know this would mean drilling a hole in the metal, possibly (most likely, actually) invalidating the warranty but would it be possible?

The question now is: When will the Kickstarter project or a supplier with an SSD adapter or its own SSD module arrive? Similar to the Studio. I would be surprised if they weren't already fully involved.
