I recently stumbled upon a Lies of P review from a different publication's "go-to souls like" reviewer. First, he complained about not being able to animation cancel.... in a souls like. Second, he didn't understand that perfect blocks were the go-to method of defense. Lastly, and this is really bad, I don't think he understood they were even a thing. I think he literally didn't even know one of the base mechanics of the game existed.

I've also seen lots of people complain about it being too hard. Like what do you expect of a souls like? Especially because it's the same difficulty as dark souls 1 imo

@yuushinichi I think that came from people trying to play it like BloodBorne with dodges or Sekiro with parrying instead of playing it on it's own terms. I really didn't feel like I died anymore than I did when learning the mechanics of those games

That SMT V reviewer sounds like someone whose first exposure to that whole franchise was Persona 5 and has no idea that Persona is the (relatively) lighter-hearted little brother to Shin Megami Tensei.

My intro to smt was buy the ds game being like cool an art book....than realizing that it was primarily a strategy guide that i needed to beat the tutorial...... so i can relate to making that mistake

I think the big complaint for IGN is that if you just pay them, they'll give you a better review. IGN doesn't even try to hide when they're obviously paid to give a good review, and that's easily their biggest fallacy. I agree with Charlie that going off dislikes kinda misses the mark of why IGN is clowned on.

@@MrBoombang007from what I’ve found, IGN gets paid very frequently to review a game. Not to give a good review, just to review it. It’s marked with “ad” or “sponsored content” on the review itself. High-profile Devs also often pay for accommodations to have reviewers come out early or just send them a copy for early play. So TL;DR, what I’ve found indicates that they’re not paid to give a good review, but can be heavily swayed and influenced with the right amount of money

Because it's not actually a channel owned by Charlie. They flip the image in an effort to get past automatically flagged copyright strikes so that they can effectively just shamelessly steal revenue from someone else's content.

They have been killing me for years. It is one reviewer on one game. The score is based on their option, so it all depends on the person. I would give games a higher rating based on my tastes. I feel that's what they do it's not an unbiased review.

I'm a Days Gone fanboy but I didn't play the game until after they fixed a lot of the problems. Heck, the first time I bought it on a steep discount sale, it crashed every time I started it. I got a refund. I finally tried again with a new computer and enjoyed the game BUT.... years later and it still crashed a lot. 6.5 for a buggy mess is about the best they could expect. I also think those downvotes changed over the years as the game improved. On release most people hated on the game. This is clearly someone putting together a list and not remembering the vitriol aimed at the game on release.

I played it recently and to be honest, 6.5 is fair. Its a very generic story, with forgettable characters and terrible voice acting. The combat is kinda fun, as is the bike, but its nothing new and a ton of games do it as well or better. The world looks nice, but the NPCs look like they're from a PS2 game. I didn't come across too many bugs and it ran perfectly on my 4070 at 1440p. Overall its above average IMO.

@@defconbois Happened to me on 2 different PCs. 10900k with 2080TI and 32GB RAM & 13900k with 4090 and 64GB RAM. So resources weren't an issue. I think it was just a bad PC port.

@@titox2310 I would say yes it introduce the Indigo League which is an assortment of fun battles as well as a legendary pokemon event. You could look up video on it to check it out but I personally say it's worth it

Alien Isolation IGN score is so stupid he doesnt even know how to play. And TLOU2 is a 7/10. As a super fanboy of part1 still playing factions till this day, im being nice with that score.

Apart from what Charlie said about different games being reviewed by different people and so not being all that comparable, the guy's "arguments" to defend Death Stranding are ridiculous: "you've got to be in the right mood". Bullcrap, that's an emotional argument. "it's made by the LEGEND Hideo Kojima". Ok, and? that's not an argument? Like, those are not good point, mate.

IGN and Kotaku are the reason why I hate game journalism since they had a lot of time being disingenuous and bias whenever they are trying to sell their games or try to sabotage games that doesn't line up their ideology. And it's started like 5 years ago when their reviews of their games are base of their personal virtue and beliefs and Not about if the game had good or bad gameplay. They don't review game as a game anymore but they always had political and agenda take on them which is terrible. Politics ruins game industry creativity as what we've been seeing lately the outcome why real world Politics are not good in Video game industry.

When Joel died it left a bitter taste in my mouth the rest of the game. Yes, gameplay is a 10/10 but the story/writing were a 1/10. Telling strangers your name, killing Joel, destroying ellie and then making us play as a character they want us to sympathize for so bad it's obvious. Factions is the only thing that would have saved the game for me but it never happened.

SMT5 is the most boring pile of garbage ever. it is literally missing anything interesting persona games have. too much water is also a legitimate review critique; anyone who's played AC4 or windwaker would understand and in pokemon being in the water is even more boring than those games.

Buddy you’re doing the exact same thing the reviewer did, comparing persona to SMT when they are COMPLETELY different, you can’t compare them. And yeah, I played ac4 and windwaker, ac4 was my first platinum and I never once got bored of the ocean. I’d just ride around listening to shanties sometimes, seems like you have an incredibly low attention span my man 💀

@@Krokodilius Well for one it came first so it cant be "persona but boring" Not sure what you mean by "same setup" literally makes no sense because the themes in the two games are completely different, there's always heavy religious themes in SMT because there are no persona's in this game they're demons. SMT has always been more like a hardcore dungeon crawler while persona is life sim with some dungeons. Your problem is that you saw "oh same company and sprites they MUST be similar!" and then you got solely disappointed because you went into it expecting a persona game when you are NOT the target audience.

I just played Death Stranding and I could see someone giving it a 2. A very pretty 2. Ok, maybe a 3 because of the soundtrack but I could see the vast majority of people hating the game play. I can't fault someone for despising the gameplay so 6.5 is about right for the average gamer. Kojima fanboys can rant all they want. Most people don't want to play a package delivery game. Hell, I seem to recall almost every negative RPG review of the last 20 years hating on fetch quests. DS is all fetch quests.

Problem is it takes way too long to get all the end game equipment and gear to make the gameplay loop pretty enjoyable. That's what the story was for. To get you to push through the slog of the first 12 hours. Glad I played it.
