Of all the CoDs, Black Ops 1 had the best storyline narrative-wise. The Modern Warfare series had the most action-packed and memorable plot though. Makarov starting WW3 with Russia invading Europe and the US is just interesting to visualize.

Black Ops 1 is the Vietnam war, Black Ops 2 is a new war, Black Ops 3 is going to be another new war. I'm not sure why you'd deny that it's the same timeline/universe. The Black Ops games wouldn't be connected at all if these characters had different names, Black Ops 2 could have been a completely different story if the names of the characters were changed. Also, the Zombies story continues from WAW in Black Ops, and from what I heard that story will be continuing in Black Ops 3.

+Delo McKenz No your wrong, Black ops is the successor to World at War and could be classed as Reznov's final chapter but they do tie in. "Sixth months after the Battle of Berlin (events of WaW), Reznov was promoted to the rank of Captain. Reznov continued to serve in the 3rd Shock Army alongside Dimitri Petrenko under the orders of Kravchenko and Dragovich (events of BO". So its not a different universe, it just covers another story in Reznovs life.

There is a secret code you can piece together through messages in the Black Ops 1 missions that (paraphrasing here) say "Reznov is dead. Or is he dead? There was no body. Is he who he says he is?" so he may have actually made it out of Vorkuta, but it was never referenced in BO2 except for when mason 'sees' him in the desert. I hope they finish his storyline in BO3 and also explain what happened to Mason for those 30 years instead of just leaving their timelines unfinished.

World at War is part of Black Ops saga aswell. Two characters of World at War are in Black Ops I. One is one of the two protagonists of World at War (Petrenko, even if appears in Black Ops I for just one level), the other one is probably the second most important character of Black Ops I and third of World at War, Reznov! It's a big error, sad to cripple that much the saga storyline only to avoid the confusion of the first impact of the viewer seeing a not Black Ops named game inside the saga, like the name itself would make the substance of the game. :S

Take notes from the Black Ops, AW, and the MW staff on how to have players get attached to a character. "Oh, my best friend had me fall to my death when there was no way that both of us "mainly me" could climb out of the water fall alive. So I killed his men and shot him in the head years later".....horrible plot. So you would rather die with your best friend than tell him to "Let me go! Don't and we will die." Over "Pull me up! I can't grab onto anything but pull me up!"
