4 years later still helps a lot. Bought a prelude and had this same issue, now I know what I’ll need to do. Thanks for the video!

Would this harness being bad cause a no spark issue?
@BrianHorton12 жыл бұрын
Not sure I fully understand the question. If there’s no spark at the plug but it turns over - tries to start when the key is turned, then that would mean the ignition switch is working.

I have a 93 Honda prelude and when I turn the ignition, the lights and the beeping noise come ona but when I put it in the on position nothing, I don't hear the fuel pump, I replaced the fuel pump(fp) and the fp relay still nothing any suggestions. Thanks!!
@BrianHorton15 жыл бұрын
C B - I’m a total novice but you’re symptoms to seem to possibly be caused by a broken switch connecting the wrong circuits when you turn the key. If you can find an easy way to just replace the switch without messing with the wires, it may be a easy way to find out. Best wishes for a quick fix!

@@BrianHorton1 thanks for the response, I will try that and see what happens.

@@JETBLK69 did you ever figure this out? I recently picked up a 95 prelude with a jdm H22a. It started up and ran just fine until recently it just didnt start, doesnt crank. Replaced the starter, tested the alternator and battery and theyre fine. Not sure if its the main relay or starter relay. I really cant find much information on this problem
@JETBLK693 жыл бұрын
@@crazycacti246 yes!! I did! after spending unnecessary money and time, it was simple, it did not have a good ground. So, I scraped some of the paint on the body of the car where the negative post is attached to the battery and got a good ground and it starts up with no problem. You might want to check the clutch mechanism that is located on the the clutch it is kinda like the brake pedal mechanism you know how your brake lights do not turn off becuz of the little pad. I also bypassed that by taking it off and just connecting the wires together. let me know if it works or let me know what did you did to get it started.
@crazycacti2463 жыл бұрын
@@JETBLK69 thank you for the reply!! I will definitely try getting a better ground. Someone also suggested seeing if im getting power to the starter with a multimeter and that if im not its most likely the relay. Will give an update soon!!

Where did you get the replacement ? Do you have a Honda part number, or an aftermarket supplier ?
@BrianHorton17 ай бұрын
Goodness, I haven’t had this car in over 5 years. I probably bought from A1 auto. I don’t have a part number, you may have to visually match to the one you pull out. Good luck!

Mine does it 5th gen any tips on those?
@BrianHorton15 жыл бұрын
Gerry Mcelyea, I’m guessing it’s very similar but I’ve not actually seen a 5th gens switch. Since making this video (sadly someone ran a red light and totaled the car - I’m uninjured) I’ve wondered if one could just pop off the old contact housing and clip or screw the new one back on. It would save all of that pain to pull out/replacing the old harness wire. Best wishes!

Looks like it's more the typical w/o the long cable. I looked it up on an auto parts website

Where can I buy a new switch?
@BrianHorton15 жыл бұрын
Parts Geek and A1 Auto should have it but just do a search and you should see a number of options. You probably can also call or visit you local auto store and see what they offer.

Can a bad switch cause the engine to go off randomly, even when driving?
@BrianHorton14 жыл бұрын
Maybe, that’s a possibility but I don’t know its likelihood over other things to cause that problem. The ignition switch can fail in at least two ways, one to connect the starter, and to keep the run engine connection.
