Thank you for a very clear, easy to understand breakdown of the vintage Honda dual points system. I especially appreciate the lack of thrash metal music that early seems to be more or less mandatory on YT posts about classic bikes.

Common Motor Collective are my go-to channel on anything involving my classic Honda’s - clear, great filming so that I can see what we’re looking at and they talk out loud about what goes into their diagnosis and trouble shooting thinking. The Gold Standard- Thanks guys!

I’m so grateful for your videos. You are saving me HOURS of staring at diagrams and trial/error testing. Therefore, you are keeping me interested in the project. Thank you and the vintage Hondas I have thank you!

I've been rebuilding bikes in my spare time since the late 1980's and I've never seen this process explained so clearly and thoroughly. My bike mentor and guru back then was a great mechanic and man named David Brigham Young (Salt Lake City) and I always wished there was some way to capture and share his knowledge with the bike world. I feel like you guys are accomplishing that work. Thank you.

What happens when you have power coming off your points all the time? My test light doesn’t shut off when the points open and close.

I'm loosing about 2 volts at the coils on my '75 CB450. Are the key switch and the kill (off/on/off) switch the 2 likelyest culprits??

Great explanation of the ignition system… Thank you! 🙏🏻 I have a 1975 CB400 Four that’s been upgraded to an electronic points system. Would this video apply to it as well? Thanks in advance.

Where would be a common place that the system might have fused together? As soon as I connect my battery, the bike starts cranking over even with the key in the OFF position.

I have a 1981 cm 400e (cdi) its a rescue...that being said i had it running well when the cdi went i replaced it with one of Rex's which is one of the only ones I could find save eBay which I can't trust and now I burned one of the spark plugs completely out so I decided to overhaul it again only problem is now my CDI is not working at all and I got no spark so I rewired the whole bike from scratch and my starter turns over but I still got no spark I'm pretty sure I need help identifying which two wires are my pickup coil wires cuz they're not the same color coming out of the actual pickup when I pull the case off the side as they are in the harness are the blue and white separate for each one cuz it looks like there's only one pickup coil on there and if so are they separate signal wires or the same signal wire for both cylinders is it fire like on the exhaust stroke

I'm probably a bit stupid at the moment. But where do I get the +6V to the coil on my XL250 1973? No spark, and I can't find out why. Coil works and spark plug's new. The bike did run TO the MOT, during the MOT....but not on the way home, and not since.

Hay I have a question. For u I have two Coi and 4 wiyers it's. 1992 Kawasaki ninja 1100 cc I geting spark from 3and 4 coil. Not 1 and 4. Tho I tested them every thing check out except 1and 4 coil wiyers. The positive side of coil is good but her where it get tricky the ground side on 3and 4 go 43210 on my reader. The ground side on 1and 4. Gos 432 and stays at two. I can't get it to 0 like 3and4 side dose on negative side. Do u have any idea. O and if I tack a ground wiyers to the nagetive side of the coil. 1and4 it spark and gos thi to spark plug but if I leave on there it dose nothing do u think it's my crank shaft sensor. I lost the magnet on the back so I put some mangnets in the back. But I lost the 1And4 again u have any ideas

Hello B...... Can a universal coil with the specifications of a CB350/400/450/500/550 HONDAs be compatible with the HONDA CM200T TWINSTAR?????

I have yet to start my bike. Almost there. I’m setting points and testing the electrical system. My ignition switch has 3 settings. Is this similar to the kill switch (off/on/off)? Dumb question but double checking
@breakingthemasks5 ай бұрын
As I understand it, thatbos commonly off/ run/ and thr last position can be a sort of "standing/parking mode" where the lights are on while the bike is stopped. Something about being safer if you're pulled off on the shoulder of a road because then at least cars can see your taillights and such.

Well I went through this whole process and I didn’t get spark when I hit the kick starter. Now I’m lost in the sauce.
