Ludi! You can annex your minions, go do diplo lense, go to diplo plays against others, there is an annex diplo play. You can do it if the relations are below cordial, it shows in the tooltip when you hover over the nation you wanna eat. I think it works agains everyone except protectorates. The total infamy you get from annexing that way is kinda stupid low. So for example puppetting Persia and then annex looks like its way lower

The game would be great if they add a lot of flavor decisions. Like creating unique factions based on certain ideologies. And adding more 'history' with like the newspapers in VIC2. The gameloop is good i Think but that would add so much replay/'roleplay' dimensions to it.

I think the biggest strength of Victoria 3 is somehow making the core 'gameplay' loop of staring at a map and watching buildings slowly build up, and laws change enjoyable enough that I look forward to doing more of it lmao. Kinda wish that my homecountry of Indonesia isn't as painful of a start though, but it's realistic IG.

I think the amount of infamy you get should also be relative to the status of the conquered nation. It doesn't make sense for you to get equal amounts of infamy when taking a state from a minor African kingdom or a European power.

Welfare payments in the game aren't useful until you're near full employment. It basically helps your lower class buy more advanced goods that you're hopefully making by that point. If you start handing it out while you're still industrializing it costs an arm, a leg, and a kidney.

FYI, Protectorates cannot be annexed because thats a "friendly" diplomatic actions. Dominons and puppers can be annexed, because those are "hostile" diplomatic actions.

I wish there was a good way to push a war onto the AI, not just nuking them with demands but also the diplo angle of intentionally agitating the other side (for a hit to your political points) or being able to refuse them backing down (for an infamy hit)

Welfare should kick in when a pops standard of living gets too low not when their income is below expected. For example at base below 10 and below 15 with max investment. That would prevent it constantly increasing as people expect higher wages due to the income subsidies.

Puppetting a protectorate costs 10% of the cost. Puppeting a country and annexing it meanwhile costs like 50% of the cost of conquering state by state with an upper limit on infamy - say, Persia costs 50 infamy while Japan 108 and Qing 200ish. It's all diplomatic plays though, not an instant thing like protectorate

The problem isn't welfare, it's minimum wage which isn't implemented properly and raises the wages of EVERYONE (even the rich). Causes a death spiral in your economy where wages are so high that your factories lose all their money and fire everyone, hence welfare payments go through the roof because everyone's unemployed, and you can't pay the welfare because your GDP tanks because no one's working in your factories. Minimum wage law is basically unusable currently as far as I know.
