This adds to my notion that Smiler and Meh should have been swapped. It could’ve conveyed a message about how people are forced to hide their sadness and other negative emotions as that’s seen as weak. If they wanted to have a feminist message then it could’ve work with smiley and being her being forced to “smile” it’s not the subtlest but it’s more subtle than this. Also meh as a villain would’ve worked better as 1. Unemotional sociopathic villains are quite scary. 2. He would’ve conveyed the point about emotional repression better as he fails to emote to stick with the code. You could add the plot point about meh using code to lock his emotions as a backstory. I’m just saying :3 (Emoticons are better)

I went to watch this by myself thinking i'll have a good laugh. I come in and see a room full of adults and some children. Everyone adult there enjoyed the movie so much it was scary. At the end I hear this one family talking about the movie. They ask their 8 year old (he was about 8, no way he was more than 10 years old) "did you like the movie." The dad then says: "it was so much fun", and the kid says in the most bored voice ever: "mum, can we get money back if I slept most of the movie and didn't see it." It was the first time in those 90 minutes that I laughed.
