Here’s why Airplane worked and Airplane mode did not: When Airplane was being filmed, the writers made it a point to hire dramatic actors rather than comedians. If they went with comedians, they would’ve acted all goofy and constantly hamming things up until it becomes ridiculous. With dramatic actors, these are the types of people who wouldn’t say things such as “I like my coffee black, like my men” with a straight face. In fact, the great Leslie Nielsen used to star in many dramas before he became a comedic legend in film. However, with Airplane mode, it just proves what Airplane would’ve been with comedians: everyone acting unrealistically goofy and at times trying too hard to make people laugh.
