Norwegian black metallers seem to have a soft spot for this particular poem - as in like 1997 Arcturus did their version. But i'm sure Ihsahn knows this very well :D.

I really like it, great vocals and Poe is my favorite author ever for sure

This song sounds so Silent Hill. Awesome atmosphere and E.A. Poe's words.

Gives me more of a James Bond vibe than Silent Hill tbh

This man who will achieve apotheosis deserves all accolades and appreciation spoken of him. Countless numbers have been lifted up by his anthems, works and praises to the infinite. So many have been freed and led to the paths of verity by his struggles to get their himself. I will never have the means perhaps to have a discussion with him beyond the VIP tickets almost denied me at BB King's in Time's. And my words were brief. I hope they drove him to inspire others to aspire to his greatness. Thank you V. I will be granting my children your gifts. I have been lifted by them myself. I'm grateful that you are still creating for our benefit. You are a god who's gracious creations have continued to give inspiration to those struggling past the chains placed upon them in these most truly evil of times.

What an amazing rendition! For a contrasting interpretation of the poem, check out Green Carnation's acoustic take on it.

Incredible work. This is not, however, the first time a Norwegian prog metal outfit has taken Poe's "Alone" to interpretation. In 2007, Circus Maximus recorded the track "From Childhood's Hour" changed the lyrics a bit, and the mood is not 1:1 the same as this version, but both are equally Poe-tic.

Everyone : "Arcturus did it better". "Ok let's listen to that". Well... *NOPE.*
@toprak34792 жыл бұрын
The intro reminds me of Portishead - Western Eyes. That orchestral composition is the best part of this song for sure. Also, the obligatory "Arcturus did it better". Clean vocals fit the poem better than shrieks.

Ihsahn is my top dog, but I have to say with earnestness that Arcturus's version is the superior one.

absolutly not comparable! both are great, but this one is more emotional than acturus'one. we better feel the sensation of being alone with Ihsahn :)

You are 100% entitled to your opinion, man. I'm not feeling this one, though. Lacks the cadence or melody I'd crave.

You probably don’t make any music yourself, huh? It’s always people who don’t actually do anything themselves who think artists should gO bAcK tO tHe RoOtS, because you don’t have the perspective to understand that artists change and mature, or that their art is for them-not for you.

Aside from the section in the middle, this kind of sounds like something off of Lost in Reverie from his time in Peccatum (minus Ihriel), before he even released his first solo album, so I wouldn't say that. Unless you mean go back to sounding like pre-Equilibrium Emperor, which is a dumb thing to say; this isn't Emperor, and he doesn't have to sound like Emperor.

No, Arcturus did it different. It's two completely different ideas really. I like both.
