Sorry you lost her Gary! It's very tough losing a good plane, and I wish you luck in the recovery, but in the moment, still a very tough loss... for what it's worth, when I have a bad crash, I always try to fly another (cheaper and easier) plane to help me get my legs back under me - you know it's such a mental game... This helps me to deal with the loss. As for the stall that happened here, I've done the same thing on final with my 70mm...the bottom just slipped out from under me on a very tight base leg in...but I was low and fairly slow so it was "fixable". Dude, you can fix it....not the battery, but the plane for sure! I would.

Thank you for sharing the bad with the good. I have the Viper 70mm and I never would have known about the Viper stalling issue without videos like this being shared. You've shared your lesson learned despite that feeling after a crash that we're all familiar with. The times that it happened to me, I didn't want to talk to anyone. Lol! But you bit the bullet and shared it. Lesson learned on how important it is to keep the throttle up during banking and making sure the CG is back where it needs to be. Thanks again Gary and I'm glad it didn't stop you!

I just picked up a Viper 70 a few weeks ago. I like the jet a lot but it has its issues. The nose retract is still a problem, although the landing gear is beefier than the first edition. The wing cracking above the main retract housing also still happens. As I was about to maiden it, I was told by several salty old guys at the field to watch the tip stalls. Many of them instructed me to be at 75% throttle or more in and out of turns, or whenever the wings are perpendicular to the ground for more than a couple of seconds. When you were coming around the corner so slowly I could feel it was going to stall. Overall, it's a nice jet, but it's not $350 nice IMO. Sorry about the crash. I know how much it hurts. Been there many times.
@rc-fannl73643 жыл бұрын
Going low and slow is ok, going slow in a turn, is usually a big no-no. In real aviation, a mistake like this is often fatal, in this case it may hurt to see this happen, but at least you live to fly another day. Take care and clear skies!
@FORDEVR3 жыл бұрын
That was no fault of flying slow. That was electronics. It was flying fine and then just fell out of the sky.

Spot-on RC-fan NL, the skill level is a notch up with EDF jets, especially with flat wings, if it's anything like full-size, which I can tell you it is... Most planes will lose 60% lift on a tight turn, most of my students if it be RC or full-size don't like to practise stalling (two mistakes high) but they have a higher success rate, The other day I was too low over the hedge with my e-flite viper...oooops🤣 happy flying everybody 😁

Biggest killer in G.A.... turn to final when pilot overshoots runway centerline. Tip stall to fatal spin. Every GA pilot needs to lean to fly RC.

@riversider6812 жыл бұрын
Brian says you stalled but you said all the electronics were melted. what was it? Also it seems something electronic went horribly wrong so is there some sort of diagnostic tool you can use in preflight to chase those errors down prior to taking to the air? Seems the more costly the plane the more you need those diagnostic tools.
@IJustGotHere2 жыл бұрын
The Viper crashed because of a stall. What made it worse was the battery was super heavy (7000 mah) and caused the plane to nose down. I had another airplane that I crashed earlier in the day that was a large gas powered aerobatic style plane. This plane had a special power distribution board that shorted internally during the flight. The gas and the lipo batteries didn't mix too well once the plane struck the Earth. 🔥

full flaps and gear are a sure way to have a tip stall.Real aircraft don't use landing flaps until they are on the final approach,not on downwind or base leg,as that is asking for trouble,and many piloys found out the hard way that isn't good.Full flaps cause more drag than lift!
