Looks good. I've done this before with the strike king bitsy pond minnow. By adding a heavier split ring to the line tie, it suspends or sinks extremely slow, giving you plenty of time to shake it in front of a fishes face. It's awesome to see this video today, when I decided to put some single inline hooks on a few really small jerk baits, since 2 Matzuo nano divers 1/8 oz arrived in the mail. I really like the idea of using single hooks over trebles. These little inline hooks are cheap chinese hooks, with high quality cutting edges, made by a brand called Bimoo. Price was around 9$ for 100 hooks. A good idea with changing out terminal tackle on these baits, is to use a small digital scale to see exactly how much the parts weigh. So if you add inline hooks instead of trebles, and the single hook weighs less, you know to add heavier splitring to balance the weight properly. If you don't balance it, the lure will move differently, and even run badly.

The jerkbait may be the last lure - I have yet to explore - its many ways of use. I get so zeroed in on the techniques I use on retrieval - that I fail to experiment. But I've started to give myself 'training' days. Days when the bite is SLOWWWW, I'll use those days to work on lure presentations. 🤘🏼

Mike Iaconelli Fishing your the man I remember being a younin flipping through the channels on a Saturday morning and seeing you screaming on the bow of your boat I watched the episode and right after I was so hyped I grabbed my rod and reel that I never used and went and fished the saranac river on Champlain i used what I learned in the episode and caught em and the rest of that summer break off school I went everyday for 2 months at sunrise by myself and I’ve never looked back, been bass fishing since I’m sure a lot of folks say this to you all the time but you were the reason I started fishing your the first guy I saw that didn’t take it too serious and had fun and I thank you for that more pros should take that into account and it would help spread the sport mike your a true icon in the industry and probably why many pros have issues with u but that’s their problem you’ve done so much for the sport no one can take that from you brother love ya man 🙏

Mike let me ask you this , lets say air temps are in low 20s and water temp in 30s , would u go with mono or floro? and why ( both lines are 6-8 lb ) if u can give us feed back. i have personaly switch to mono due to temps cuz i feel like i need that high strech line because the floro becomes to stiff but i would like ur opinion
@mikeiaconellifishing
@mikeiaconellifishing 5 жыл бұрын
Generally speaking, I would use flora because the line is more dense. Fluorocarbon lets the jerkbait get a hair deeper and will cause the jerkbait to truly suspend or slightly sink. But I will use mono under those conditions if Ive fishing extremely shallow water (1-4').

Hey Mike... I have a question concerning "why" to use a rising jerkbait when the water temperature is rising (and vise versa)... what's the theory behind this? Just curious
@mikeiaconellifishing
@mikeiaconellifishing 5 жыл бұрын
The theory is to match the jerkbait to the natural movement and positioning of the baitfish. Generally speaking, when the water is cold and the temp is falling, bait fish tend to be positioned in a nose down position and tend to be lower to the bottom or dying with a downward decent. Under rising cold water temps, bait fish seem to be more oriented in a nose up position rising up toward the surface more.
@philtarbox8256
@philtarbox8256 5 жыл бұрын
I suspected that was the theory behind it, but I hate to assume anything I'm not really knowledgeable about... thanks for the response Mike... I met you at the Philly Expo a few years ago and in Waddington two years ago (I was wearing the brown T-shirt that said "I Listen to the Voices in My Tacklebox"... Lol)... hope to see you again in the near future!
