Ike & Tina Turner were an American musical duo composed of the husband-and-wife team of Ike Turner and Tina Turner. The duo started as an offshoot splinter act from Ike Turner's The Kings of Rhythm before the name changed to the Ike & Tina Turner Revue. The duo was once considered "one of the hottest, most durable, and potentially most explosive of all R&B ensembles".
Their early works including "A Fool in Love", "It's Gonna Work Out Fine", "I Idolize You" and "River Deep - Mountain High" which is featured in this video. These songs became high points in the development of soul music while their later works were cited for wildly interpretive re-arrangements of rock songs such as "I Want to Take You Higher" and "Proud Mary", the latter song for which they won a Grammy Award. They're also known for their often-ribald live performances, which were only matched by that of James Brown and The Famous Flames in terms of musical spectacle.
The duo was inducted to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1991

The Ikette in the middle at the Playboy Club is Pat Powdrill! She appears in very few Review videos. On the left is little Esther Jones, choreographer, best dancer, and longest serving Ikette (she should have written a book). On the right is Claudia Lennear, quite beautiful and a great career until she retired from show business to get french literature and art history degrees from Pitzer College and become a college professor. Claudia didn't need a wig. These are killer backup singers/dancers, a great lineup!

I was just a sophomore in high school. Looking back on this now ….and after a 13 year marriage to an abusive husband myself…Tina Turner was the only talent on that stage. Ike saw it. Used it . Tina Turner was a stronger woman than I could ever have been. She still stands tall in my eyes. God Bless her. 🙏

I remember being so little and me and my mother waa watching whats love got to do with it video i had to had been 6-7 i was born in 78.. But i remember My mother saying how beautiful Tina was and that she had the best pair of legs. She said she was a woman. Its sad to think she didnt feel beautiful to herself yet the majority of the world seen it. ( My mother is Hispanic n Native from Mexico. ) she was in aww of her and i always remembered that!

Ike and tina were in Albuquerque in the early 60's for a rock n roll show at the Civic Auditorium. You could stand right next to the stage and touch their feet, along with James Brown and others who came thru. It was dynamic then, and now as you can see. granny 67

@8:20 She's joined on stage by I'm not sure whom. But it's just great to see these hard working bands you know from yesteryear. I love music's family tree. It's like a lotta this stuff (Sister Rosetta Tharpe) and co they had performances like no one else. I love Beyonce and so many others of today but these pioneers are something else. None of the tricks and etc of today. It was just raw performance and you gotta be good. She started in the 1950s so yeah that's got some history hey but it is definitely 100% awesomeness. Tina was not just a goddess but she endured like no one else and then belted this stuff out like there's no tomorrow. Incredible, just incredible.
