Tina's highly charged perfomance of this song is arguably Phil Spector's greatest production.

cuppajoe1 agree.also kind of crazy that Ike turner basically invented modern rock 'n' roll in 1950. What a bunch of bastard geniuses.
@shanewright27728 жыл бұрын
The guy shot an innocent woman in the head. That kind of over-writes any talent he may have had as a songwriter or arranger. His talent is irrelevant. The word genius no longer applies to him, the word killer takes it's place.

A full choir of backup singers, a big horn section, a big string section. All at once. Most producers would be afraid that all this would overwhelm a single vocalist, but Phil Spector knew better. His Wall of Sound here is just a big wave for her to glide on. What a voice! What power! This song is a nuclear bomb of R&B.

Not true. After their divorce, and his bouts with drugs, IKE Turner had a Grammy award winning musical, and producing career, up until his death. Also outside of the abuse of Tina, he was actually one of the greatest inovators inRock/Pop/R&B music history.
@chantiaunique8 жыл бұрын
im not discrediting his talent at all. The man was talented. im talking about how he treated her for years. It was WRONG and that's not debatable
@luciverdad48347 жыл бұрын
chantiaunique Tina is retired. She hasn't performed in nearly a decade. I wouldn't imply that his death was karma since he died nearly 30 years after their divorce. Ike was a talented musician but he was also troubled stemming from his childhood and he was bipolar, drugs made things worse. He should have treated his wife better but at the same time they benefited from each other to get out of St Louis. He can not take credit for her natural talent but he gave Tina a platform to shine. They're inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of fame together as a duo for a reason.

Far far too many people believe Tina's version of events from the 'autobiographical' film 'Whats Love Go To Do With It'. There are MANY holes in the story.. and the musical timeline is totally out of sync with reality in quite a few area's (but thats another story).

I saw Tina and Ike and the Ikettes perform this at the Oakland Coliseum in 1969 when they - along with BB King(!) - were the opening acts for The Rolling Stones … Tina and the Ikettes were so amazingly energetic that they absolutely blew the roof off the place - so much so that the Stones wouldn’t even come out on stage for the longest time - like 45 minutes - until the place calmed back down. Never seen anything so powerful in my life. Tina was somethin’ else…❤

Hi Catherine, I too clearly recall this film on UK TV when it came out. I was knocked sideways! This clip was imprinted on my mind-seeing it recently, I knew the subway, the camera angles, the 'Ikettes' dance, everything. A great early hit for writers Jeff Barry/Ellie Greenwich, aided by that echoic mono _Wall of Sound_ from Spector.

Tina was so amazingly awesome on this song! I tried to do this the night that Tina passed away with my singer friend, Christal at karaoke, but because she had never heard it before we abandoned it after the 1st verse, but I just sent her this video and I think after she hears it and learns it we're gonna give it another shot, and I'm just gonna sit back and let her knock it out all by herself. Rest in peace, love & music,Tina! 🙏💖🧙♂️🎤🎶
