I work for a company that makes board games, and you have no idea the lengths I have to go to to get fellow designers to add branding to ALL SIDES of our boxes... we are not apple, people can't GUESS.

The wine rack also fits 9 of the cardboard boxes designed for Magic or other playing cards. I have our Magic the Gathering collection sorted by color into the basic BCW 800 card single row boxes. The outside of these (not the interior or they do not fold properly) I painted with simple acrylic paints in red, blue, black, green, yellow (for white cards) and purple for multi-color cards. It looks beautiful and makes creating new decks a breeze.

You’re missing Bestå as IKEA furniture to store games. Perfect depth for the standard sizes and a wider shelve to store the more larger games. And in the bedroom I even have a PAX wardrobe filled with boardgames.

As a fellow Expedit owner, as you mentioned it is the same internally as the Kallax. The Kallax is just an Expedit that uses less wood, hence why the model was replaced (when you consider how many they sell it's a huge cost savings for Ikea).
@KristofferYiFredriksson3 жыл бұрын
You did a petty good job at pronouncing Expedit. In typical swedish fashion you need to intone every single syllable in a sing song way. It means sales clerk btw. Kalax is a town in northern Sweden.

My guess is 130 games. This is a great video! I love seeing the way you guys organise the tiny games. I am totally interested in the house-buying process for board game enthusiasts lol Once you're settled or have the time, would you all be interested in doing a video of your favourite kid games? I have a 7 year-old who loves playing games, Sushi Go! is one of her favourites. Trying to find more for her that aren't just the typical games like Monopoly, etc.

We would have so much to talk about on that topic, but until then I we can whole heartedly recommend "Don't L.L.A.M.A" by AMIGO. A deceptively simple and fast game that we usually play around 10 times in a row any time we choose to play it.

Interesting vid. Got me thinking, but no Gnedby in Ontario Ikeas... My guess: 107 games

Most of our Gnedbys are holdovers from the college dorm days, and they keep finding new uses despite their instability.

Hey guys, great video!! I am looking at building my own custom shelves as well, can you share details about the materials you used? Looking at lumber at home depot (Canada) I see nothing deeper than 12 inches. Are you able to comment, what wood or product type did you use and what shelf brackets as well?

I guess 137 items on the bookcase for small games. I say items because there are expansions, variations as well. Probably between 130-160 games, so I say 137 if you need an exact number. Maybe even more if extra games behind them..

Hi there! Thanks for the fantastic video. Would you be willing to share your thoughts on the version of the Kallax that has different compartment sizes (20294619)? Given the variation of sizes of games, I thought this may be a good idea, but I haven't been able to find any examples of people using it for board game storage, which makes me wonder if it's not ideal for that purpose. I'm strongly considering it, as it's 33 7/8" wide vs the standard 30 3/8" wide. I'm trying to maximize my space of 44"w x 36" deep x 68" high. I was thinking the best strategy would be to put 2 Kallax's back-to-back, then put them on top of a giant lazy susan. If I did this, do you think it'd be better to have a board between the Kallax's to prevent stuff from being pushed back too far, or no divider to allow for storage of longer games? I'd really love your input, or if you had other recommendations!

Fantastic video! I've been relying on Kallax for a long time but been struggling with the small games. I wish we had the Gnedby here in the US. It would fit perfectly in my gaming room. Will probably get a billy for the small ones

No, no topper on it. It's height barely fit into that corner in our basement as is, it had a lower portion in the ceiling due to ducting.

Has anyone correctly guessed the number of games? Are there games on the billy that are behind other games? Are we counting expansions?
@ObsessiveGamer3 жыл бұрын
No, as of right now, there are no correct answers in the comments. For the purposes of simplicity (and applicability to the video topic) each box is considered a "game" whether or not it's an expansion. That way it requires no specific knowledge of any game or series of expansions. There are no games behind other games.

You changed your name!? Tiny game storage is a pain for us too. We just have them stacked in a cupboard. I feel like I would be cheating if I answered the shelf count first. ;-) I order my games on my shelf by weight/complexity. The more heavy the game, the higher it is, to keep it out of grubby kid-hands. Yes, it is both a blessing and a curse to have a ridiculous amount of board games. We bought a house with a basement to have a play area and storage.

@@ObsessiveGamer I counted 125, but there seems to be spaces for 127.

@Super8Satchmo3 жыл бұрын
Hooray! Glad I got it! There were a few games that were tough to see and one that was placed horizontally on top of patchwork that was tricky to see. 126 would have been my next guess in case y’all moved games around
@Super8Satchmo3 жыл бұрын
Okay, it’s 127 games on the shelf! There are a couple of tricky games in tricky places, but that’s my final answer! Good luck on moving! (Also my wife says I now have to mount my kallax to the wall!)
