Ikea double bed in a Citroen Relay.

Installing the raised double fixed bed into my Citroen Relay, Peugeot boxer, Fiat Ducato.

For those of you who may want to use your camper van as a normal means of transport: The Relay is 10cm wider than the Ford Transit Custom which is why it is simple to fit the IKEA bed frames but it is also over 2200 mm high which is above the height for many car parks: e.g. NCP. The Transit may be too narrow for the IKEA bed frames, but is less than 2000mm high, and will fit in car parks. As always, a trade off.

Hi Stephen, very valid comment, thank you for pointing thus out, as it very important you have as much information as possible when selecting which van to go for. We were happy not being able to get into most car parks as we had a Mazda Bongo before we purchased our van and it often would not fit in car parks.

How did you secure the slats or did you purchase them with the caps already in

Hi anthenry1. Thank you for watching and posting your question. The slates are from IKEA they are called Lonset to hold these in place I fixed a baton at each end which stops any sideways movement, you can see this at 3:55. - here is a link for you: www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/loenset-slatted-bed-base-20278718/

Don't drill out hex mounting holes, get 11mm m8 hex rivet nuts.

Were the cross beams the ikea ones? And how did you fix them to the horizontal posts? Couldnt see this on the video which was a shame but well done

Hi Bobby. Yes the cross beams are from Ikea, I used the free brackets from Ikea to fix to the horizontal post. The bed beams are these www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/skorva-midbeam-galvanised-90124534/ The brackets are part number 116791, but you can only get them from going to customer service parts section, like I said these are free. @@bobbyfischer6786 I used three, as it offers support in the middle of the bed, where the two slated section meet, the slates were also from Ikea. I chose to use these ones: www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/loenset-slatted-bed-base-20278718/ Because it lifts the bed a bit more to give more head room under the bed, I did remove a little bit from one end of the bed of the slatted frame to enable fitting across the back of the van.

Great video and like what you've done. Did you use M8 rivets? Buying materials in advance of my conversion, wanting to make sure I have the right size to fit the holes.

Hi Tim, sorry i took a while to reply. Been super busy and I wanted to double check the size before I replied. I used M10 rivnuts with M10 stainless steel bolts, which were 60mm long due to the timber being 50mm thick. Does a standard double mattress fit? Just starting making plans for a build and looking for info found your channel 👍🏻

Hi Dave, Yes is the simple answer. We use a standard IKEA double foam mattress, its a little tight which is perfect as it stops the mattress from sliding anywhere while driving. I'm 5"8 and I can lay totally flat without touching either side. Hope this helps, if have any other question please feel free to ask away.

Sorry about that, this was my first video so my audio was a bit hit and miss I guess. Plus it was filmed on my phone. I now use a hero 10 with dji wireless mics, this has improved my audio and of course over time I have improved with my editing. Thank you for watch and taking the time to comment. Hi Mark, thank you for taking the time to watch and comment. While it may look like there is a lot of weight there, i was very mindful, that i did not want all the load pulling on the side of van and i wanted the weigh loading to the floor of the van. If you have seen our electric video, I mounted a board on the bed legs for the electrics to mount too, with those items being quite heavy when all together, again i did not want it pulling on the side of the van. Interestingly for the whole build fully loaded with water, food, passengers, etc we are still almost 300kg under weight.
