Iirc, the American A20 originally in Warthunder predates it, originally appearing in IL2: Birds of Prey on consoles back in 2009, and again in the game Birds of Steel in 2012 which was literally ProtoWarthunder right down to the (now also replaced) OG tech trees. The infamous ‘you have a hole in your left wing’ and the test map ambient radio chatter can be traced back to IL2 as well!

The American tech tree used to have the Havoc model, it was my main when I was strictly playing air RB 5-10 years ago. I believe it was called the A20-G Havoc in game at that time

Finally someone flys the Russian A-20! Its a hidden gem that nobody noticed. About the IL-8: flew it like 5 time ; hated it, just like any IL-2s, went back to fly the A-20 + P-47 combo in mixed battles (I'm better than to use a Pe-8) till 5.7 where I take the Tu-1+2 as CAS and has the Su-6 (AM-42) as backup.

I am okay with the P-400 Airacobra being in the American tree since that is where they originate. However, I don't understand why it isn't also in the UK tree since we built them for Lend-Lease to the British. It is true that the English were disappointed with the planes and had to be brought back into U.S. service but the fact remains that they were used for awhile by the Brits.

I find it funny that they can't just swap the models between the trees. I guess there could be other differences between the two options, but it seems funny that the turret is the one thing not correct between the two A-20s. Always enjoy the bits of history - WT or actual - that sneaks into videos at times. Keep up the good work, Bo & Co!

nice video the il-8 was to replace the il-2 but as you can see in video it was less movable so not put in production. those they move to another the il-10 which did make production and introduction at very end of ww-2 and serve in Korea war to and 6,166 were built in 10-year production from 1944 to 54

You had Ju-87G3 Stukas with those 37mm underwing guns, you had the Il-2 Sturmoviks with the 20mm cannons, you had the Bell P-39 Airacobra with the 37mm nose cannon, and you had the Hawker Typhoon with the 40mm cannons. Man, how there was such a variety of tank busters in ground attack aircraft. You don’t see that now, at least not what I see. I keep wondering if I really need to bother with the top tier jets whenever I watch prop games. No silly lock-on and launch multiple IRMs within micro-seconds of each other. You actually have to rely on your skill in aiming instead of Gaijin’s random number generator. Would it be cool to fly an F-15 or F-18? Yup. But I don’t think it will be fun.

It's control stiffening at high speed is worse than on the il-2. I've got premium il-2 "Avenger", and it performs much better when you pull it out from the dive. Yep, the il-8 is slightly faster, but it is still not fast enough to outrun fighters. Good thing about it is that you are able to carry 2x500kg, ant these bombs hit hard, but if you can put the bombs precisely, you can do the same job with 2x250kg, and have 4 rockets if you go with il-2. So, in my opinion, the il-2 is better for cas in trb - it is much more responsive at high speed, and in terms of armament it is better, cos you can carry bombs and rockets at the same time.
