Ilias is still the man... no more tournaments, but still in perfect shape, sharing his incredible knowledge with the next generations... a real role-model for the judo family (and for everyone else as well).

and before you think, I forgot about you, Travis, 😉 i find your videos very useful as well. I really like the fact, that next to judo you are so good in BJJ as well - that means, that you have an even wider perspective. 😊

Thanks! I'm glad you like my videos and yes I bring a very interesting dynamic to the table due to my level of understanding of both sports.

Thank you for this video (and all the others). It’s reassuring to know that our own home training is similar to that of the greats and concentrating on the basics of conditioning and skill work helps to maintain a good base for when we’re all back in the dojo.

I feel like basic strength training does not get enough love in Judo. Iliadis probably squats above 200kg and benches above 150kg. Anyone hardly ever talks about that. I feel like widely held belief is that strength training makes slow and the top guys are just build different (which of course they are, but still 😄) Exam season - I don't have better English in me right now - hope you get the point 😅 Great video still.

This is exactly what i am thinking. If i had to choose between band training and strength training i think strength training will be much more valuable. You will get stronger and with strength comes power and therefor speed. Bands training maybe are a good condition workout that simulates randori if you can't train.

Interesting, now I have to get the right band. Thank´s for sharing.

Thanks for the video. I have a question: I recently bought iliadis's judo fanatics 4 videos. I loved his Greek overhook. My question: is it completely ijf legal? Before I add it to my arsenal.
@jimiboi872 жыл бұрын
Yeah it’s legal, you just have to attack because if you are not attempting to score right away, they will give you a shido for having that overhook hand on the opposite side lapel without attacking. If you keep the overhook hand on the same side lapel, you can hold that for as long as you want though. Hope that helps!

Awesome video Travis! What do you think about Iliadis foot work? He shifts his weight and lifts his feet a little, I'm curious why. Also, a couple of the movemenrs had a smallish range of motion? Just about moving fast?
@TravisStevensgrappling4 жыл бұрын
For the feet moving - it helps to create a rhythm. As for the smallish range of motion - Yes he has a big focus on how fast he can move him self not only into the technique but out of it as well. He is challenging him self on both sides.
