As someone who also has an abusive parent lemme encourage you, that it was becoz of my abusive father I got close to my heavenly Father and HE was my protector from my abusive dad. I hope you will find this comfort in our heavenly Father too... And the ones with good dads and mom that I've seen enjoy their earthly parents and hence focus more on them than their heavenly Father. So personally for me I think it's a blessing, becoz it brought me to the bosom of my heavenly Father.

God used the depression that I hated for 17 years to get me to submit to Him. I don’t think I could’ve surrendered without that pain. The depression is still there but I always pray every morning that he gives me the ability to focus on Him more than the depression, and He gives it to me so freely. He is so good to us. I love Him so much because He first loved me and came looking for me when I didn’t want to be found.

God delivered me from the power of lust when I was 39 years old. I cried out to Him constantly, and He delivered me. But He showed me the Fear of Him; that I was not going to enter His kingdom if I didn't get my sin under control. Then, when I was truly afraid and hopeless, He showed me His love by shielding me from the deadly arrows of temptation. He will require you to close certain doors in your life: movies, even seemingly-innocent ones (that happen to have beautiful women jumping around all over the place), anything that causes you to stumble. Close doors, and ask Him to give you the strength to "look away" when the temptations come. This is what Jesus means when he says "If your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away" I will pray for you.

46:20 The first sermon from Paul Washer I ever heard was sent by my pastor. The first thing, and THE BIGGEST, that ministered to me, was not what he said, but what he did when he was about to pray. That shaped me so much as a disciple of Jesus Christ, and I emulate it. It stings me every time I hear pastors and preachers start and stop praying all willy-nilly like God isn't a person. It's so telling! Not surprisingly, as good as they could preach, that detail lets me see how they are spiritually. I don't judge them in my heart, but I pray to the Father that they correct that. Preaching good and being a good servant of the Lord are two different things!
