I was talking to someone about this entire ordeal. And they were like, "Y'all are just complaining because they made it religious." And I said, "No, people would still be mad if they changed it regardless. Because that was not in the original show. You have to license shows. And when you license shows, you can't change any of the words. Thats why when you see Lion King, Mary Poppins, and Chicago.... They all start and end the same." I get if someone doesn't know licencing works in theatre. But like, it seems kinda obvious when you see the same show in two different places that maybe there's some guidelines theatres have to abide by

This comment isn't going to get attention but I absolutely HAVE to say this. As someone who grew up in an evangelical church, the line from the sermon that everyone keeps referencing is being handled very poorly by people who have never been exposed to that indoctrination. What he's doing is disgusting, and I left christianity behind because the bible is absolutely *rife* with bigotry, a lot of which would be targeted at me. But I need people to know that this isn't remarkable. Being gay is considered evil to nearly any church who aren't explicitly progressive. The Hamilton incident is being sensationalized, and it stings like hell because it's not sensational to me. It was just life until I was able to move out of my parents' house. It's frustrating to me that people are zeroing in on comparing being gay to drug abuse without bringing up that he had just previously listed divorce -- a condition that, like substance abuse, people often find themselves in through no fault of their own. It's also frustrating because this isn't weird or even one of the worse things I've had to endure hearing at church. Traditional christians aren't unfamiliar with this rhetoric. It barely even registers on my radar at this point. It's frustrating that churches *everywhere* are this bad or worse, while people continue to treat the people behind these incidents as wild, crazy extremists. That's simply not true. Christianity preys on the poor, the mourning, the oppressed, and the vulnerable, and it feeds them bigotry, hatred, and this exact shit like it's *nothing*. This is not an isolated incident. It's not weird, and it's not the sensational spectacle that outsiders are making it out to be. It's extremely common.
