That cross at the end of the clip really exists on a military graveyard at Ypres, Belgium (not the place where the truce happened but as a memorial at a place were there were many, many casualties during '14-'18)! Video's like this should slap people in the face, at least certain people, those who start wars but are not in it! But what an incredible production and such beautiful music! I knew Sabaton but didn't follow them..., that..., is gonna change now!

The cross in the end actually exists. It's located somewhere near Ypres in Belgium. It's a memorial for the Christmas truce and was put there in 1999.

Sabaton focuses on military history as a theme for all their music. They highlight heroism and humanity and each of their songs is a retelling of a historical event. To support their educational mission, they have a separate Sabaton History channel on You Tube. I think you might enjoy the videos for "No Bullets Fly" or "Night Witches." Although I have seen and enjoyed some, I am not as familiar with their live performances. I'm sure others will recommend some.

This song tells of an actual event that took place during various conficts in World War I, as opposing forces held a brief truce, before ultimately returning to their respective encampments and continued fighting. We are all (we are all..) friends. And today we're all brothers, tonight we're all friends A moment of peace in a war that never ends Today we're all brothers, we drink and unite Now Christmas has arrived and the snow turns the ground white Hear carols from the trenches, we sing O Holy Night Our guns laid to rest among snowflakes A Christmas in the trenches, a Christmas on the front far from home
@uayfb12 жыл бұрын
As I have heard, the persons who took part in the Christmas truce refused to fight each other afterwards - when you have exchanged photographs with each other of your families and sung Christmas carols together ( and even played football together!) it's harder to suddenly begin to tear each other apart. So these people were moved to other sectors of the front and were made to shoot at the opposition. Also, as I understand, in 1915 it was a court-martial offense to have a Christmas truce. Because of those who gave such orders, the wrath of God is coming.

"24. December 1914: Late on Christmas Eve, the British Expeditionary Force heard the German troops singing Christmas carols in the trenches opposite and saw lanterns and small Christmas trees along the trenches. Messages were shouted to each other between the trenches. The next day, British and German soldiers met and exchanged gifts, took photos and some even played soccer. It was a rare but magical moment of peace and harmony in the midst of one of the most gruesome events of the 20th century. "

The sad thing is about Christmas Day 1914, not every section of the western front had a truce. Some sections continued fighting, others used the day to bury the dead that was left in no mans land from the fighting. The leaders of the units that had the truce moved the men around so that the following year this would never happen, they even went as far as issue a standing order that anyone attempting such an act of "treason" would be shot in front of a firing squad. Though I would highly recommend the Sabaton History Channel if you want to know the stories behind any of the Sabaton songs including the full story of the Christmas Truce 1914.

Old Metal/Rock head here, this band along with Nightwish is my favorite bands. Sabaton has a deep catalog mostly about Military sacrifices heroics thru out history. They are not political but as you said they are really about the sacrifices of the common soldiers citizens, Lest We Forget is their Mantra. They have a Sabaton History Channel ( not one yet for Christmas Truce). They explain a lot of the stories behind the songs. Please check out the Animated versions of No Bullets Fly and Night Witches. It’s a combination of their History Channel and their songs. I know you will go to the end of the videos but it’s really important you go to the end of No Bullets Fly, as it shows the power of music on people. Live show 40 to 1 Woodstock Poland would be my first choice for your first reaction but anything Live , videos , history channel is fantastic. A lot of their videos are ( just like Christmas Truce) are major movie quality ,their official video of Bismarck is epic. Their catalog is deep and like Nightwish they have no bad songs! Also thank you for not stopping Christmas Truce during Floors aura as most reactors do because I believe it emotionally brings hope, sadness, despair & even a hint of joy. Sadly I’ve heard Floors contribution is not on the the Studio version. Which if true I humbly feel is the first mistake that Sabaton has made. Also the soldier that gets shell shocked by the explosion wakes in a daze and walks over the wall is Floors husband. Happy Holidays please Stay Safe Rock On!🙏🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘

It's not just war, in our societies today we often see each other as ideologies, identities, governments, nationalities, whatever, and rarely as people. We're all scared. We all feel alone. But none of us are so scared nor so lonely as those men in the trenches in 1914, and if they could put aside seeing each other as anything other than people in the same circumstance for one day, then maybe we can all learn to do it forever. Maybe there is a kinder future for the human race, and if there is it starts with the spirit of the German soldier who climbed from his trench to the tune of silent night to seek a ceasefire with men he was told were his enemies.

I am a big Sabaton fan as well as being a Nightwish Army trooper. Sabaton are making musically documentaries of war episodes, like no other band - just as deep as Nightwish's stories, but other subjects, just as important. This is what music can produce and provide... And to be honest - that is what you have lost in the US music industry - it disappeared a few decades ago, sadly enough. And you are spot on about the Celtic, folk and Scandinavian / European vibe. And of course it was Floor. Sabaton and Floor goes back to Floor's ReVamp days, where they toured together - and Floor and Hannes found each other. There are a few videos out there that shows Floor pranking Joacim on stage - being a background dancing girl and another one where she challenged him into a guitar duel. The Sabaton guys loves working with Floor and it's also the Sabaton guitarist who is on some of Floor's covers. She is on at least one other Sabaton song. Merry Christmas to you from Denmark 🇩🇰

Sabaton has their very own "Sabaton History Channel" on youtube were they talk about the history of the song topic and then alittle about how/way they did the song. they don't have 1 for this song (yet) BTW Great Reaction, for more on this topic there is a decent movie (2005) "Joyeux Noel" (Merry Christmas) shows the German, French & British (well a Scottish unit) , sadly when word of these events got out many units were punished and relocated to other sections of the line were the fighting was more savage. and then they made sure on holidays they would launch attacks and such. but the war took a turn and got more deadly esp once GAS started to be used in 1915 some soldier tried to repeat the event of 1914 but were shot. for another good song live checkout - En Livstid I Krig (Live - The Great Tour - Gothenburg) make sure you have the captions on as they sing it in Swedish

About live shows, they are very good and there is some live shows truly amazing. I'd suggest you Wacken 2019, a very special concert, they play on 2 stages at the same time, with the current lineup and the old band members, you can start with the song Swedish Pagans feat Tina Guo, an amazing celloist, but all the show deserve to be watched. Another one is the Woodstock Poland open air, a very massive and passionate crowd. They have some songs about Polish resistence during the WWII, the reaction of the audience need to be watched, the songs to react here are 40:1 and Uprising. Last suggestion, this time a Show in Sweden, their home land, with all the audience singing the entire song: En Livstid I Krig (Live - The Great Tour - Gothenburg) About Floor in Sabaton, they made an entire song with her as leadsinger, but it's a simphonic version, maybe it's better to first discover the band for what they are.

Îf you think about reacting to "No Bullets Fly" or "Night Witches" make sure you choose the animated STORY videos for these (NOT the animated music videos). The STORY videos tell more about the background and are done by YarnHub and their team of fantastic animators. They are very emotional as well, so maybe you keep some tissues nearby (these songs make me cry everytime).

Just hammers home the absolute insanity and madness of war - the senseless loss of the pawn soldiers - all at the bidding of some egomaniacal, power hungry figures sitting in castles/places thousands of miles away.
