In fact when it's always the big4's artist being chosen to win has always been rigged because the company are well-known, so their artists gets to win almost all the time because they have a lot of fan-bases that has already been established among their artist. Nugu company doesn't win awards besides being nominated, since they are new. Hybe's BTS didn't exactly paved the way for Kpop, but you should thank 2nd Gen Artists from different companies cuz they were the FIRST ones who actually introduced kpop to the world. They explore several different genres each comeback and show beautiful stories throughout their music and mvs. Every group has to consider if their song with be popular/marketable or not because that’s how they will actually make money. But I don’t think that txt is doing it to a large extent, the artistic elements still clearly shine through. Idk that’s just my opinion though ㅠ.ㅠ

I wasn't captivated by this group. I knew nothing about their survival show or any of the controversy surrounding it. I saw Magnetic in my recommended for a few days before I finally decided to check it out. Their concept or debut song didn't stand out to me like other groups have in the past, and they reminded me too much of NewJeans. It's possible that I've just outgrown kpop at this point, because none of the 5th gen groups have stood out to me so far and it feels like there's just so many of them debuting now that it's hard to keep up lol. If ILLIT becomes successful though, good for them.

I didn't watch the survival show. I really enjoyed the song, but I feel like if a smaller company had released that song it wouldn't have gotten popular at all. Survival shows seem like just a popularity drive for PR. Things turn out better when the members fit their concept, complement eachother and get on well with eachother -- rather than being chosen eclecticly through popularity voting

The criticism was that they very obviously had a girl picked from the 1st episode to the last they wanted to debut. It didn't matter that there were better performers than her she got the most screen time. The original rules stated that votes were 50% Kvotes, 20% international votes, 30% producers votes. When their It girl wasn't making the cut, they moved her during the last episode to the top, changing the rules to get her in the lineup only allowing 2 girls through Kvotes, and 4 through producers votes, no vote for international voters. They wanted to have then debut as a global girl group but cut out the global voters when their girl was not popular with most of the Korean and international voters. It was totally rigged. The 2 most popular girls, with both Korean and international voters were eliminated the episode before the final made no sense.

I personally have watched the show and in every memory of Youngseo's performances, I never seen her doing any cute or dreamy concepts, and she tend to stick to one style - badass or girl crush. she even confessed once on camera she find it hard to relate to either Aim High or Scrum near the finale. They were more talented trainees that did not need to go through the psychological trauma of a survival show if the line up and concept was already figured. They didn't need that extra promotion they are from HYBE! So why not just debut them from the start without the show

not to sound defensive. there are benefits for the others to appear actually, because they get the chance to hone their skills further and nurture pre-debut fanbases, and its not a waste of time as what some people believe. for example, Bang Jeemin, who is eliminated from R U Next, is now going to take part in iland 2 and she already amassed a great following from her previous R U Next fans and the current iland 2 fans, and this will be beneficial for her to have some degree of support to help her debut, and probably the group in the long run. some of the eliminated trainees also, in their interviews, consider R U Next as a transit point for them to rediscover their new sides and enhance skills that they need to hone and improve.
