My sketchbooks are half decent stuff and half literal trash. I know sketchbooks are supposed to be for practice, but for me I want my sketchbooks to look wonderful and I want my trash to be on scrap paper. It’s frustrating.

I’ve never really been into the whole “artist sits on a cliff with sketchbook and hair flowing” thing but this makes me want to go out to wherever I can, my backyard, the park nearby, the forestry area near the park and just sit/adventure for hours, loosely doodling whatever catches my eye whether it be a bird, a couple mushrooms, logs in the river, oddly placed sticks or just my doggo and I’m so excited!!

I love the mixture of rough and refined, attempts, studies, "fails" and successes in this sketchbook 😍 I'm on a sketchbook roll at the moment! I've been sick for a month and the only thing I have enough energy to do is dabble in my sketchbook. So I filled two in two months and now I'm trying to make the third last a bit longer 😅

I have quite a lot of sketchbooks with different coloured covers and I'll just pick one up depending on the mood I'm in and the cover that matches my mood, so I've probably filled the equivalent of one sketchbook this year, I just need to go through them and count the doodles. 😁

I've been watching your channel for a while now and it's helped me so much in understanding that sketchbooks are not supposed to be filled with finished drawings and that they can be filled with half fished ideas and anything you want really. I always used to try and make my sketchbook look pretty and have only finished drawings in it. Thank you for inspiring me to come out of my comfit zone of perfection and just draw and be creative and I've found that i enjoy drawing a lot more when i'm not trying to make my drawings perfect all the time:) BTW, congrats on finishing your sketchbook it looks amazing!

I‘ve said it before, but I really love how loose and playful you are in your sketchbooks! Such a joy to watch and all that experimentation is so inspiring, love it! My gazillion sketchbooks are going pretty well, but at a snail‘s pace, because I work in too many of them at once 😂 my problem is that I just like different paper for different media and mixed media paper just seems meh for all of them 🤷‍♀️

I know you said that you didnt enjoy the leftmost gouache study because it looked dull or muddy to you, but I think the bright pinks and purples really stand out very well against the darker colors. It's very nice contrast going on, I thought it was amazing when you first flipped to that page!

@@megashrek5059 Depending on what size you like your sketchbooks maybe consider making your own sketchbooks - 50 pages of A4 mixed media paper can make quite big (or even multiple) sketchbooks and in the long run it is cheaper than a brand-name sketchbook and has nicer quality than cheap sketchbooks :>
