8:53 ... gotta say, I wasn't quite sure what a "chip pole" was either! If it were in the UK, I'd guess it'd be somehow connected to "fish and chips"! I'm still not 100% sure, but it is a chip card reader? Part of the ticketing process? Yes, then it's really outta place. [Homework: how does "gotta" and "outta" translate to Dutch? Good old US slang!]

Het spoor richting Electrolux ligt een stuk lager dan het doorgaande spoor richting Leiden. Ter plaatse van de 'hobbel' zit een duiker, waardoor het spoor iets omhoog en weer omlaag loopt. Had in het ontwerp wel anders gekund vermoed ik. Vanaf de weg die langs het spoor ligt is dit goed te zien.

Recentelijk hebben ze het station verbouwd, waardoor de uitgang nu ergens anders zit. Zogenaamd voor de "veiligheid". Maar in plaats van dat ze eerst de paal verplaatsen en dan de rest, hebben ze het andersom gedaan

They likely modified a station to have ramps to make life easier for those who need ramps and wheels to move around. They never moved the ticket stand because .... bureaucrats. That was probably two departments not talking to each other. {^_^}

@@Wizardess I live here, and there has always been a ramp. The station is also accessible from several other entrances which are all wheelchair accessible. It probably has something to do with planning and the guys that pave the new entrance probably were available earlier than the electrician that moves the pole. I'll take a look tomorrow to see if it's been fixed yet

According to Google maps the platform exit is moved recently and for some reason NS forgot about moving that pole as well. Travellers are lucky they can check out at all: even as recent as 2021 this platform was not equipped with a check in/check out facility at all!

The Line that merged before Alphen aan den Rijn from the left is the single trackline from Gouda Waddinxveen and Boskoop. :)

You are right. Proof of future plans of making this line double track (allowing more intercity trains) is the bridge at 14:16 that is obviously wide enough.

8:53 Those poles are supposed to be installed by the exits of the station, so that passengers can use them on their way past. Judging by the shape of the fenceline, I think the ramp at this end of the platform was meant to lead directly towards the road or to mirror the one on the other platform, and the pole was placed accordingly. The ramp was put somewhere differently instead, but the pole hasn't been moved to match. 18:29 This could be a relatively unusual result of a track buckle due to the recent hot weather. Some of the track visible in the subsequent minute or so shows similar irregularities, but otherwise seems to be in good condition and regularly used. An industrial siding wouldn't be maintained to the same standards as the main line, so could be more susceptible to heat stresses.

Soo, funny story: the spur track’s laid on top of what we’d call a “duiker” in NL… it’s been a known problem for ages but one you can only solve when the track’s fully settled in, so traffic’s been slowed down with an “AW SB 5” and they’re planning to fill in the missing bedding once the bedding that’s there’s been fully settled in… (otherwise you’d have to return every few months, because the same effect’d pop up)

18:30 ljkt me geen uitzetting door hitte, er zit ook duidelijk een bult in het spoorbed en dat komt bij hitte echt niet omhoog. En uitzettend spoor vervormt zijwaarts, niet omhoog. Mooie video, leuke spoorroute. 🙂

Maybe the hump is a last ditch protection against runaway freight cars fouling the mainline. The mainline (the one your train is on) is single-track so if it were fouled by a naughty freight car, ProRail would have to suspend all service out of Alpen station towards Leiden, which is drastic and not nice for passengers or other freight services on the line.

Hello Jon here from Madison Mississippi in the USA At 21:42 we see an interesting juxtaposition. In the fore ground is a windmill with sails out probably pumping water and in the background modern windmills producing electricity. Is the hump in the track a reminder to freight drivers to slow before the level crossing?

Voor Bodegraven, vroeger was de uitgang op een andere plek. Ik heb even gezocht en vond iets in een video uit 2011: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r5bRqIZqaNGke9k. Overigens staat ook op station Holten een OV chippaal op wat onlogische plek, namelijk niet in de buurt van een uitgang maar helemaal op het eind van het perron. Volgens mij heeft daar vroeger ook een uitgang gezeten. De bakbordjes op Holten staan daar ook nog steeds voor opgesteld, maar dat is iets voor een andere video.

That is what long rails do when exposed to extreme heat and non-ideal condition of roadbeds. One of the "recent" train crashes in the Eastern US involved a rather dramatic heat kink in a rail. {^_^}

It's funny to see so many gramatical failures from dutch to english... sometimes they very obvious but the most are more hidden 😂 but I can give some off my favorite ones.. in dutch you say: "het loopt uit de hand" in English that means that "it's not in control anymore" but the Dutch are so good to transfer it in English with the confusing translation "it walks out off the hand" 😂

this is just a wildass guess but I 'think' its the yellow pole with a card reader at the top. there's one as we enter the station and one right at the other end way past the exit, which I assume, used to be at the end . I did say think.😎😎
