It's way easier to do in Corel Draw: Just select the figure/Long click + Shift + Ctrl drag right/Release/Done.

Thanks! But it took me about 15 tries before I realized I was missing 2 things… you have to click that circle button on the layer to select all. Command-A doesn’t work - I missed that part somehow. Also the center point of the horizontal line is what it’s using to reflect from. I tried it without drawing the horizontal line and Illustrator had no idea where to reflect from and the reflections were all over the place. But this should really speed things along with my drawing!

from the menu: Effect > Distort & Transform > Transform

to expand all left and right, click all layer button, the one circle on the right of your layer names menu select object > expand appearance

Is there a way to merge the two shapes into one once you have to a spot where you like it? I've got a nice symmetrical logo designed, but I want to be able to merge it and make some asymmetrical edits to one side or the other. But the reflected side is currently uneditable.

You have to select all the elements in the editable side. Go to the menu object, and click in expand appearance.

@@daphnecarpenter2794 once you have them expanded, try selecting both objects and use the pathfinder tool to unite them into one shape. There might be a better way but this worked for me!

a bit late but leaving this here for future viewers, once you are done with your artwork, select the circle on the layer next to the layer name, which selects the layer as a whole, now you the option of 'Expand appearance' under the object menu, instead of just 'Expand' which doesn't do much, Heads up, Expanding appearance removes the mirror effect. Another thing id like to add apart from that is that, whenever you mirror X axis make sure your art doesnt go outside the artboard sideways, if it does, the reflection effect no longer occurs perfectly on the middle, for y axis, make sure it doesnt go up or down outside of the artboard

@filipalija I found the answer after a few seconds i wrote this question :D The problem was, and i think you should put it into the video, that a the horizontal line always must be longer then the drawing itself, otherwise, the mirror plane will be at the two shapes' shared center point.

I had the same issue. For me it was the pen tool. You have to use it exactly as they did in the video, not click and drag.

An EASIER way. With the left half already done, Effect menu/Distor & Transform/Transform.../Reflect X/In the little squares put horizontal right/Copies 1/Preview/Ok. Object menu/Expand Apearance. Shift+M (Shape Builder Tool), trace over the two halves/Done.

Você deve criar primeiramente uma camada com um retângulo em volta da área Branca, e nessa mesma camada você aplica o efeito de espelhagem do eixo X, marcando "1" em "cópias", depois é só traçar a reta no meio para dividir. Deu certo comigo, fiz um logo super legal
