I think that wave 1 was just so obscenely terrible that wave 2 and 3 seemed amazing by comparison. But compared to the tracks in the base game, the DLC still feels incredibly lifeless and uninspired imo. Rock Rock Mountain especially looks no different than the wave 1 tracks. They’re new MarioKart tracks, so they’re still fun in the moment. But as I play them, I feel like I’m playing on unofficial fan tracks rather than ones made by Nintendo themselves. It’s extremely disappointing, even if I’d say it’s still technically worth the money.

Considering some character rival files were edited, specifically the Mario and Peach alts (Metal/Gold & Pink Gold, both tanooki's, and both cat's), this suggests that costumes could be coming to the game and potentially new characters.

A couple of things that I'm surprised you didn't mention here is the fact that wave 3 also eliminated the ability to be target shocked while gliding and assigning individual I frame values to each character, kart, wheel, and glider

We got a snow track in wave 2 because summer in the Northern hemisphere is winter in the southern hemisphere. So I believe we’ll likely get another snow track in wave 5 and maybe even 6 as well.

Wave 3 is absolutely brilliant. 3DS Rainbow Road and Maple Treeway are especially amazing. It's too bad Rock Rock Mountain looks so bad.

Here are my wave 3 rankings and thoughts: Overall this is easily the best wave so far. Every remix hits and there is no dull track. This makes ranking them very hard but I’ll of course do them based on my preference and 200cc. Rock Cup London Loop is a very good city track. I never played it before so it was new to me. The graphics look insane and the course feels very different every lap which is a good thing. Chain Chomps are crazy on the track too, some of which are freely roaming. One of the best parts is the remix. The original music was terrible but they made it sound incredible! Overall this ranked number 3 for me. Boo Lake is a spooky track and definitely better than Twisted Mansion. The underwater part is neat and so is the remix. However there is tough competition so this takes the number 7 spot. Rock Rock Mountain plays amazing. So many shortcut opportunities, especially with gliding. The remix is INSANE and the final climb up the mountain is so fun. This track takes the number 4 spot. Maple Treeway is a classic and a great track too. I was a bit worried on how it would handle in 200cc, but it handles great. Not to mention how fun the half pipe is. The remix is amazing too. This ranks number 5 for me. Moon Cup Berlin Byways…need I say more. This was the track the got me back into playing Tour. The music is incredible and the track needless to say the same. There is so many obstacles, shortcut opportunities and more. There are so many landmarks you pass by too. The track is chaotic around the moving traffic but in a good way (not you Baby Park.) Maybe it might be for my bias towards European countries but this is easily a top 5 overall track for me. Without a doubt this is number 1. Peach Gardens is…alright. Many shortcuts have been nurtured or removed. The track just feels like straightaways and right hand turns on 200cc. The chain comps don’t pose as much of a threat like how they do on London Loop. However the third lap is very unique so it helps out a bit. The remix is great too. What upsets me the most about this track is we will only get one more DS track that will be Delfino Square or Airship Fortres. These are my favorite DS tracks and I would much rather have them than Peach Gardens. This unsurprisingly ranks 8 for me. It’s not bad, it’s just mid. Merry Mountain is very holly and jolly. The journey up the mountain is very fun as you pass through a village and a train track. Going down is a little underwhelming but it’s still very fun. The music and theme is incredible tho. This takes the number 6 spot. Last and certainly not least is Rainbow Road. For me it’s not the best Mario Kart track of all time as many claim. It’s not even my favorite Rainbow Road but that doesn’t stop it. The track feels like a journey that keeps getting better and better. The music adds to it and makes you forget how hard the track can possibly be. Some turns have been made more gradual which honestly doesn’t hurt the track. It’s awesome and comes in at the number 2 spot.

Am I the only one who feels like they didn't try at all with Boo Lake. You saw how they transformed other GBA tracks, Ribbon Road and Cheese Land are basically unrecognizable from the originals. Mario Circuit lifts the layout from GBA but the sense of scale and use of levels makes it feel fresh. Snow Land is a lot less impressive, but Boo Lake feels like a direct port. The water/antigravity section means almost nothing. It's 12 second long. No hazards. One lame shortcut. They didn't even bother scaling it up slightly to make it worthwhile. Is it the shortest track in the game? This costs additional money? Worst track in the DLC and possibly the whole game. Even shit tracks like Bone-Dry Dunes have something resembling content. Boo Lake feels like padding, filler. A miniscule track to say they added 48 when it's like a third the size of every other.

We kept some normal items making it not to goofy but the main think was taking away a lot of HDIs (heavy defensive items) like triple greens and bananas. But we kept bob-oms which needs skill to use defensively. It was great.

I would love to play wave three, there just always seems to be someone who picks something else. And wouldn't you know it the track that gets picked is the one with the least votes. I personally say that wave 3 is the first that got me spending money again on MK8D. I disagree however that the tracks are now "on par" with the regular MK8 tracks. The work is clearly out sourced or newbies in the company are trained on them. There is so much missing like wrong lighting, characters not recieving shadows on some maps, texture maps are weirdly used ( roughness etc) and many minor details. Features like the item selection are done by engineers/ programmes, the tracks are mostly done by graphics team/ tech artists or designers. Meaning the introduction of this feature (while being super cool) has nothing to do with the booster pack. The people responsible probably dont even know each other. In any case I think the new tracks breath in some life to MK8D and offer great value for their asking price. Tho I personally would have liked to spend 11 bucks more to get quality on par with MK8 original tracks...

Yes, custom items is a great thing to rip directly out of Smash. But it wouldn't be Nintendo if there wasn't some fatally stupid limitations. First, while you can choose what items can be obtained, you can't choose how they're distributed. The game follows normal item rules when picking an item (eg, only one Boo can be in play at a time, the shock can't be obtained until 30 seconds into the race) and will only you an item you wouldn't be able to obtain if it's the only one it can give you. I'd ability to distribute items based on your position rather than distance behind first, or even entirely random for maximum chaos. Second, renagade roundup's custom items don't let you pick different items for cops and renegades, only the teams that switch roles every round. Adding the ability to do that would've made a great feature better, especially when the default items tilt the game in the renegades' favor. Off topic, but there should be a Battle Royale mode that reimplements the classic balloon battle mode prior to DS.

I prefer wave 1 and 2 because I just find their tracks more fun to play than Wave 3, but wave 3 has the advantage of no bad tracks, great graphics, and exceptional judgement on where to put Antigravity and where not to, while I may prefer Waves 1 and 2 overall, I hope the rest of the Waves resemble Wave 3 more

Off I'm a little late to watching this video and I agree with pretty much all of your rankings! Peach Gardens I would say is more Mario than Star ranking because to me it looks cheap and plastic looking when I wish it would look like the grass in the base game like GCN Yoshi Circuit and Wii Moo Moo Meadows for example. And the ending when you first start the final lap that whole section on the left with characters sitting on benches looks unfinished and more bushes with flowers would have helped. And Rock Rock Mountain for me is so meh. It feels like a too little too late track that looks like it was from wave 1, if I had it my way I would replace Toad Circuit with Rock Rock Mountain and here we could have Rosalina's Ice World or Bowser's Castle instead. We haven't had a single retro Bowser's castle yet and it boggles my mind.

I'm torn on the tour tracks. On the one hand, it's good to have these tracks evacuated from tour into a real Mario Kart game, but it also just feels like too much. Every single cup starts with a city track, and with the additional tour track in every wave (yes, I'm counting sky high sundae), 3 out of 8 tracks, almost half of the booster course pass, are from tour, and that just seems like too much for one game

Let me break down your comment: Ok firstly you suggested Tour isn’t a real Mario Kart game, but it is, even if you don’t like it. Secondly, you’re upset about the quantity of Tour tracks coming. To that I say: don’t be. The Tour tracks are all quite different from each other because the cities are massive. And I know it's not just about which games they're from, it's about how good the tracks are and stuff, but it just worries me, because there are a lot of really great tracks from the main series too, and they may not be able to get in. The tracks are good, but this amount of tracks from tour, a game that came out after Mario Kart 8 deluxe, is not what I think of when I think of "48 Remastered tracks from across the Mario Kart series"

Wave one brought easy tracks, they are short, simple to strategize and easy to take tight racing lines, it incentivizes average or bad players to keep playing and get better. If they brought Waluigi Pinball or MK7 Rainbow Road on the first wave, people wouldn't be playing as much as they are now. Man Waluigi pinball for sure feels like driving the 24 Hours of Le Mans, that track is long.

Tour tracks are MILES better than the arcade tracks, the only reason you prefer the arcade tracks is because you hate Tour. Thank god arcade tracks aren’t in 8 deluxe. Tour tracks are better, good enough to be half the dlc which it is. No arcade tracks
