Here are my wave 3 rankings and thoughts: Overall this is easily the best wave so far. Every remix hits and there is no dull track. This makes ranking them very hard but I’ll of course do them based on my preference and 200cc. Rock Cup London Loop is a very good city track. I never played it before so it was new to me. The graphics look insane and the course feels very different every lap which is a good thing. Chain Chomps are crazy on the track too, some of which are freely roaming. One of the best parts is the remix. The original music was terrible but they made it sound incredible! Overall this ranked number 3 for me. Boo Lake is a spooky track and definitely better than Twisted Mansion. The underwater part is neat and so is the remix. However there is tough competition so this takes the number 7 spot. Rock Rock Mountain plays amazing. So many shortcut opportunities, especially with gliding. The remix is INSANE and the final climb up the mountain is so fun. This track takes the number 4 spot. Maple Treeway is a classic and a great track too. I was a bit worried on how it would handle in 200cc, but it handles great. Not to mention how fun the half pipe is. The remix is amazing too. This ranks number 5 for me. Moon Cup Berlin Byways…need I say more. This was the track the got me back into playing Tour. The music is incredible and the track needless to say the same. There is so many obstacles, shortcut opportunities and more. There are so many landmarks you pass by too. The track is chaotic around the moving traffic but in a good way (not you Baby Park.) Maybe it might be for my bias towards European countries but this is easily a top 5 overall track for me. Without a doubt this is number 1. Peach Gardens is…alright. Many shortcuts have been nurtured or removed. The track just feels like straightaways and right hand turns on 200cc. The chain comps don’t pose as much of a threat like how they do on London Loop. However the third lap is very unique so it helps out a bit. The remix is great too. What upsets me the most about this track is we will only get one more DS track that will be Delfino Square or Airship Fortres. These are my favorite DS tracks and I would much rather have them than Peach Gardens. This unsurprisingly ranks 8 for me. It’s not bad, it’s just mid. Merry Mountain is very holly and jolly. The journey up the mountain is very fun as you pass through a village and a train track. Going down is a little underwhelming but it’s still very fun. The music and theme is incredible tho. This takes the number 6 spot. Last and certainly not least is Rainbow Road. For me it’s not the best Mario Kart track of all time as many claim. It’s not even my favorite Rainbow Road but that doesn’t stop it. The track feels like a journey that keeps getting better and better. The music adds to it and makes you forget how hard the track can possibly be. Some turns have been made more gradual which honestly doesn’t hurt the track. It’s awesome and comes in at the number 2 spot.

We got a snow track in wave 2 because summer in the Northern hemisphere is winter in the southern hemisphere. So I believe we’ll likely get another snow track in wave 5 and maybe even 6 as well.

I think that wave 1 was just so obscenely terrible that wave 2 and 3 seemed amazing by comparison. But compared to the tracks in the base game, the DLC still feels incredibly lifeless and uninspired imo. Rock Rock Mountain especially looks no different than the wave 1 tracks. They’re new MarioKart tracks, so they’re still fun in the moment. But as I play them, I feel like I’m playing on unofficial fan tracks rather than ones made by Nintendo themselves. It’s extremely disappointing, even if I’d say it’s still technically worth the money.

Wave 3 is great, but I'm giddy over the new feature, blue shell only races! Nintendo finally catering to sadists like me! With custom items my friend and I made something that is to fun to explain. We kept some normal items making it not to goofy but the main think was taking away a lot of HDIs (heavy defensive items) like triple greens and bananas. But we kept bob-oms which needs skill to use defensively. It was great.

Wave 3 definitely does a lot more than the others, the tracks are mostly better, custom items can become chaos, and also balance changes since Lightning got nerfed to no longer shoot down players while gliding.

Something I think is worth a potential video from you is on corporate then vs now. Am I the only one who feels like they didn't try at all with Boo Lake. You saw how they transformed other GBA tracks, Ribbon Road and Cheese Land are basically unrecognizable from the originals. Mario Circuit lifts the layout from GBA but the sense of scale and use of levels makes it feel fresh. Snow Land is a lot less impressive, but Boo Lake feels like a direct port. The water/antigravity section means almost nothing. It's 12 second long. No hazards. One lame shortcut. They didn't even bother scaling it up slightly to make it worthwhile. Is it the shortest track in the game? This costs additional money? Worst track in the DLC and possibly the whole game. Even shit tracks like Bone-Dry Dunes have something resembling content. Boo Lake feels like padding, filler. A miniscule track to say they added 48 when it's like a third the size of every other.

I personally say that wave 3 is the first that got me spending money again on MK8D. I disagree however that the tracks are now "on par" with the regular MK8 tracks. The work is clearly out sourced or newbies in the company are trained on them. There is so much missing like wrong lighting, characters not recieving shadows on some maps, texture maps are weirdly used ( roughness etc) and many minor details. Features like the item selection are done by engineers/ programmes, the tracks are mostly done by graphics team/ tech artists or designers. Meaning the introduction of this feature (while being super cool) has nothing to do with the booster pack. The people responsible probably dont even know each other. In any case I think the new tracks breath in some life to MK8D and offer great value for their asking price. Tho I personally would have liked to spend 11 bucks more to get quality on par with MK8 original tracks...

Yes, custom items is a great thing to rip directly out of Smash. But it wouldn't be Nintendo if there wasn't some fatally stupid limitations. First, while you can choose what items can be obtained, you can't choose how they're distributed. The game follows normal item rules when picking an item (eg, only one Boo can be in play at a time, the shock can't be obtained until 30 seconds into the race) and will only you an item you wouldn't be able to obtain if it's the only one it can give you. I'd ability to distribute items based on your position rather than distance behind first, or even entirely random for maximum chaos. Second, renagade roundup's custom items don't let you pick different items for cops and renegades, only the teams that switch roles every round. Adding the ability to do that would've made a great feature better, especially when the default items tilt the game in the renegades' favor. Off topic, but there should be a Battle Royale mode that reimplements the classic balloon battle mode prior to DS.

Well with you now putting more detail for the tracks I think I have more consistent ranks for the new tracks while for me the minimal I need in presentation is not causing a headache and I will understand what is going on I will do my best and give my thought on presentation though keep in mind for being a playstation user in the past my words can be a bit overwhelming ;^^: 1.london loop: as someone who have passion to Europian capital cities I think is a nice track that have pretty nice look and style although is more on the generic side for me 2.boo lake: while it look very simple is feel like a true next gen jump than the OG GBA one which mostly felt like 2.0 version of the ghost tracks in super mario kart from my POV which the 2D MK titles doesn't give me the best read presentation wise 3.rock rock mountain: while I love the concept and idea even before is one of those MK7 tracks that I forget and as for the presentation while the main track look fine I guess one thing that trigger me is the trees which compared to the trees in the game or heck in other games like the capturable one in odyssey look pretty off for me it have the plastic cheap look of the recent SMG4 redesigns which in case you don't know my POV for both looks is basically burn it alive if you have better explain why the trees triggering me please let me know 4.maple treeway: I am so glad the halfpipes are back they were my fav thing in MK wii and really help to market for me the bikes though I wish it have the net bridge I know is mostly from nathniel bandy's vid of top worst top 10 but I still really think it would add a lot more personality to this level 5.berlin byway: I maybe not the biggest fan of berlin personaliy but I think it look really well and the level of strategy you can do with the whomps as either obstecals or ramps really add for me 6.peach's garden: not huge fan of the DS one but the remake make it much more intresting and demanding as a track and the hedge statues including the toadette one look solid not all time favorite but still a joy to look at 7.merry mountain: this one I think is great I kinda wish the last part of the track had ramps, more boost panels or glide panels but for what it is any other part is great 8.rainbow roads MK7: while not personally favorite rainbow road that will go to wio and double dash I still think is gorgeous to look at the rainvows here make me thirsty and wish I was able to touch it in real life the planets look smooth, the soundtrack sound phenomenal which I really happy this is the case since the OG is a bit compressed for me and hey having saturn on your stagecwhich is my favorite planets is an A from me Honorable mention: I really happy they have the option to select the items now there the option for super cursed races togheter or yourself Well that my overall ranks and thoughts if you have criticism to my ranks please let me know but don't expect me to change my opinion I am very stubborn and sorry if some of my thought weren't on scale again my I see presntation I mostly judge it as an EX playstation user from PS2-4

Maybe they will add more additional features with each new wave, like updated graphics and moving cars with wave 2. Wave 4 might have more battle tracts, wave 5 might give new characters, and wave 6 might give new vehicles. Just a speculation

Said it before, and I'll say it again: the "Wave 1" style tracks don't look bad, they're inconsistent with MK8's art style. That inconsistency drives me crazy, which is why it is a travesty that Rock Rock Mountain, one of my favorites in the series looks so drab when it could've looked as good as it played.
