It's the sunset wilds course, isn't it? I've seen some people talk about it and how badly designed it was compared to the other courses of the wave, but it personally didn't ruin the wave for me, although I do agree Nintendo didn't do a good job integrating it into 8 deluxe

Sadly it mostly has to do with the game itself rather than BLATENT laziness. The game's lighting engine isn't able to adjust lighting sources. You may have noticed every single course always had a stationary lighting system. This would mean they'd have to remove the lighting system and bring in a new lighting system, which means dismantling the game which could take months just to add this single gimmick to a single course.

I appreciate that they finally remade a retro course that felt neglected for the first time, but it’s so much more boring to the original. Now it just feels like kalamari desert without the train. Honestly the city tracks in this wave is my favorite set of city tracks out of all of them. I think it’s the fact that they really do feel unique compared to the other ones, with Athens Dash having a historical Greece architecture setting, Los Angeles Laps taking place mostly on the beach and construction site, and Vancouver Velocity taking place at night and having an ice rink and the wavy bridges. They’re all really fun honestly.

It’s Sunset Wilds, I already know. Max Demeech Fury incoming for that. Well as dumb as that is, this is still a solid wave and better than the first two, even if not quite up to the standards of 3 and 4. I just have a feeling that the grand finale will be the cherry on top to this decent alternative of getting a new Mario Kart. Edit: I understand the bah's did make LA Laps sound unique, but I can't deny just how superior this version sounds in my opinion.

I know people, including Demeech, are complaining about _Sunset Wilds_ not having the nighttime sky. However, based on a few comments I read elsewhere, it seems that the programming of the course was hindered by the lighting engine used by the game which would have made it impossible to add the nighttime sky without a complete rework. In other words, graphical limitations that somehow weren't found on _Mario Kart Tour_ . Otherwise, Wave 5 seemed to be good, especially with the excellent inclusion and music remix of _Daisy Cruiser_ , although I didn't like _LA Laps_ and _Moonview Highway_ (not even in the original Wii version) that much. Just not my cup of tea.

To be honest, I feel you were too generous on the visuals for Athens Dash, Moonview Highway, and LA Laps. While they all look great, they all have noticable flaws. For Athens, it's the houses on the glider on lap 3 that are untextured simple shapes. For Moonview, it's the buildings in the city section background which are noticably flat. For LA, it's the beginning of Lap 3 with the industrial district looking rather untextured as brown concrete instead of mud or dirt which they clearly know how to do well given Waluigi Stadium. Overall a great wave, but calling the visuals on par with the base game is a bit of a stretch. It's close, but could use some improvement.

While Moonview Highway feels a little nerfed I think it's the better Wii track of the two. I think it turned out better than Koopa Cape. It's missing some cars here and there but the remix is amazing and it's almost the same as the original unlike Koopa Cape!

Not to mention, moonview’s music. Honestly, the main reason why I even wanted moonview was to hear what they would do to its music. The Normal theme sounded a bit thin and left a lot to be desired imo, and it kinda disappointed me a tad bit because of that. But the City theme? Oh, that city theme! Immediately brought the hype back up, and just WOW! The changes they did, while quite a bit different from the original, gave it such a soulful breath of fresh air, and I’ve constantly been playing it these past couple of days. Easily one of my favorite themes to come from the bcp. Moonview had to be one of most unexpected surprises to come from this dlc, but it was most definitely a welcome one in my book.

All of them aside from Sunset Wilds are peak. As a Mario Kart Wii fan, I'm over the moon seeing this game receive so much representation. Blue Shell only races on Moonview Highway are now a reality! Squeaky Clean Sprint tops Yoshi's Island for me, the sheer ridiculous nature of the track and the fact we're racing in someone's bathroom is insane to me! It's nice to see Kamek make his playable character debut, he's the best of the three. I'm pulling for Pauline and Diddy Kong as the final two characters. Wave 5 was the most consistently good wave, second to Wave 3 for me.

Mario Kart 8 deluxe does not support dynamic lighting, hence why Sunset Wilds is like this. You could easily change the skybox, but not the terrain

The lack of a sunset is unfortunate (I have read that it was due to technical issues regarding the game's engine, but they could then have picked Yoshi Desert, which is also from Super Circuit, also desert-themed AND also remade in Tour; bringing that one would have been an easy job). But I agree, Wave 5 in general was really amazing. It made me question if I should still play as Daisy (my all-time favorite), because playing as Kamek feels SO good!

Wiggler was added because the Pipe Tour started the same day as Wave 5's launch. The Pipe Tour adds Wiggler to Tour. So he's not an outlandish character, he was planned to coincidence with the Pipe tours launch. I'm betting Diddy and Pauline are the final tour characters

Wave 5 was a pretty decent wave, in my opinion. Despite the background Sunset Wilds not being able to sunset and the lack of obscure in Koopa Cape, they had a lot of bangers. Moonview Highway, Squeaky Clean Sprint, and Vancouver Velocity were the highlights. It's hard to believe that the next wave will be the last one. Hopefully, the final wave will end amazingly.

A bit more challenge would be a good idea as well, if that applies to all cc classes. A 200cc race with that much cars in the original would be brutal, not in a good way.

I think this is the best wave in terms of the track selection but they really cut some corners with some of the tracks. The vehicles on Moonview Highway are slow and there aren’t nearly as many as on the Wii version, the sun doesn’t set in Sunset Wilds, and I’m pretty sure the tables in Daisy Cruiser don’t move nearly as much as they did in the Mario Kart 7 version.

Wiggler and kamek have different horns if you press the item button without using an item and you'll be happy to hear that wigler keeps his train noise whenever he gets mad whenever you honk the horn and kamek has the same laugh from Yoshi's Island whenever you honk the horn Petey piranha sounds a little different but it mostly kind of sounds like a horn

One of my favorite things about this wave is Kamek. I think he’s a very underrated character and he deserves more love (I honestly think he should be in smash over Waluigi. He’s way more of an important character. He raised Bowser and is the main antagonist of the Yoshi series and secondary antagonist of the Mario series in multiple games. He’s earned it way more than Waluigi). After being cut from two previous games it’s finally time that he gets a spot in the roster in a real Mario kart game. Also his horn being his voice from Yoshi’s Island is an amazing touch

I'm very pissed about Sunset Wilds and Koopa Cape! I'm angry the sun doesn't set anymore and the track doesn't transition into nighttime anymore and that's a huge disappointment! And the Koopa Sign at the beginning of Koopa Cape still being missing like in tour is just unacceptable!! They rushed this wave too! Wave 2 came out back in August 4th last year and this came out a month earlier. Wtf? They clashed with Pikmin 4 a little. The underwater section is a major disappointment. No electricity and even Cheep Cheeps are missing. Just Anti Gravity boosts and a half pipe, that's it. Very disappointed with both GBA Sunset Wilds and Wii Koopa Cape!

I work on cargo vessels and not cruise liners, But I'd say that Double Dash nailed it in terms of the 'basement' area. In DD I could tell that part of the course was a small section of the Engine Room, which takes up most of the of the bottom half of vessels so passengers can remain on the more pleasant floors, and so that the ship can operate properly. Don't get me wrong the 8 Deluxe version of the cruiser is still fun and all, but filling what used to be a section of the Engine Room to the brim with Water? Clearly Nintendo hasn't been on any ship in a while, because a Cruiser with a flooded engine room is what happened to the Costa Concordia. In case you don't know, rolled on it's side due to similar conditions.

The engine room from Daisy Cruiser was filled with water in Mario Kart 7 first. It's not a new change.

@Demeech: their is a reason why the background of sun set wild does not work in mario kart 8 deluxe because no other track even the main one does not have a changing background sky box. So it might be an imposible change to have the sun set work in Mario kart 8 deluxe. Edit: Actually it is possible to make the sky box change and have the sun set work in Mario kart 8 deluxe Sunset wild, because someone that hack Mario kart 8 deluxe and make custom mode did do it. Maybe the reason why Nintendo did not do it was because they prefer to stay the track bright and on the finial lap when the sky box because dark and the track is still bright it would not look good. But maybe if their is enough complain maybe Nintendo will add the sky box to have the sun set working, but maybe not perfect.

Since I've been saying since wave 3, I personally think they need to stop adding tour maps. It removes more deserved options since tons oc them have not been integrated well such as the map and turns which were made with tours auto turn in mind

Huh. You didn't rip apart Sunset Wilds like I expected you to. The lack of the nightfall is disappointing, but otherwise Sunset Wilds is my favorite course in this wave. Los Angeles Laps, Daisy Cruiser, and Squeaky Clean Sprint are other highlights. As for the characters, I'm more than happy to see Petey Piranha playable again. He has a great model and even new voice clips. Wiggler and Kamek are also cool. Can't say that I'm upset with Wave 5. Just one more to go...!

I agree. The lack of the sun going down in Sunset Wilds is a major issue, but the shockers in Koopa Cape are gone too. Not to mention, a ramp near the underwater pipe from the original is missing. Also, is it just me, or is SW slippery? It could just be that it’s a sandy track and I need to get good, but still.

I watched the entire video and am still not sure what "ruined" this wave. Even the lack of sunset didn't seem to ruin that track for you. It seems disingenuous to spend so much time (rightly) admonishing Nintendo for releasing unfinished games and such and then turn around and use misleading clickbait titles in your videos :/
