This is absolutely wonderful. Beautifully played, and you can practically see the music and passion flowing through her!
The musicality of the performance was different to what I have heard in other performances of this piece. It was more flowing. In other performances, it was more forceful on some of the notes. Here it was very flowing. At first I was a bit hesitant about it, but then i accepted it and realized how beautiful her style was. Great performance! Good Luck!

I am glad to encounter Soyoung Yoon and piece by Tartini today To me it's music from heaven and how banal the people who talks about "shoulder rest". Heaven gives you the gift of music and you are talking about shoulder rest, what a pity. Open your mind, ears, and heart to appreciate the gift Yoon and Tartini gives you.......

The HD is much welcome, she deserves it. Trondheim in July is fine. But I was constantly aware I was in a cold country. Maybe playing Sibelius is better instead of the hot blooded Italian music. For this performance, the Italian government should loan her for life a Guarnerius. The Guadagnini is sweet, but imagine what she can do with a guarneri del gesu. Bravo.

Yea Heifetz and Rabin don't, but Perlman does. Perlman is very arguably much better than both. Very few violinists don't use shoulder rests. Soyoung Yoon is amazing, she has a very technical yet expressive style that is the superlative of unique. Although every violinist has a unique style, hers is developed and very mature. So if you want to comment on the usage of a shoulder rest, you should look at who uses them and doesn't; also her posture is fine, I don't know if you've ever watched any expressive violinists before, but their posture is non-existent, posture doesn't create the sound. If you want a non-existent posture example, look to Kyung Wha Chung (I think that is how you spell it).

@Hon Siu There are almost no Guarneri's floating on the (free) market that may be compatible with the talented Ms Soyoung Yoon. The clients of Guarneri, Joseph were mostly streetbaladiers or the like, he had no rich clients like his famous neighbour Stradivari. There are a few Guarneri's that are exceptional sma for the Strad's. Nonetheless there are two great Guarneri missing - not listed and that is the instrument maker's personal violin and the one of the concertmaster, Gio Viotti, of the duke of Mantua. These two must be the very best Guarneri ever made.

Such a shame that many violinists don't learn to play without a shoulder rest. It does make a huge difference speaking from personal experience
@lotusbuds20009 жыл бұрын
+ss032010310103 So is the difference in the quality of the sound..how is it better than with shoulder rest..would like your opinion. Anne Sophie Mutter does not use one. It must be a lot harder without one...what is the teaching re: that...I don't think teachers insist on not using one...so even the really great younger players I see all are using one. I don't think we would have as many violinists if shoulder rest wasn't discovered.
@bradroe98008 жыл бұрын
ss032010310103 Its really bad for the neck.
@ss0320103101038 жыл бұрын
The difference in sound is tricky because you have to learn how to play it properly so your body interacts with your instrument. It takes a while before you can actually hear the results. It is even more difficult now because people are using high tension strings so the instruments are not allowed to vibrate anymore. playing without a shoulder rest is not overly difficult. My first teacher insisted I used shoulder rest and I only changed when I met my second teacher. It took me maybe 10 months? It's just you have to feel and learn how the instrument moves on your shoulder. If you are someone who is used to a shoulder rest, the movement of instrument may make you nervous because you are not used to this feeling. I think shoulder rest is just convenient plus not many people know how to play without nowadays so it may end up being more painful because they might try to play it the same way - clamping the violin with their head.
@ss0320103101038 жыл бұрын
Nowadays many violinists even young ones have problems with their spine, shoulder, neck, and body alignment. And they all use shoulder rests. Many professionals suffer from chronic pain and require surgeries. The cases are getting much younger now even though they all play with shoulder rest so I don't think playing without a shoulder rest is as bad as you think. It's a question of teaching method.
@bradroe98008 жыл бұрын
ss032010310103 Ah, I see. I'll try it sometime. I'm open to new things, I'll try to see if I notice a difference.
