Il-96 is a Soviet and Russian wide-body passenger aircraft for medium and long-haul airlines, announced by the Ilyushin Design Bureau in the late 1980s. Il-96 became the first Soviet long-range wide-body aircraft. Designed for 300-435 passengers and a flight range of 9000 km; Soviet/Russian PS-90A engine is used. Humanitarian assistance A340 did not entail this sacrifice on the part of humanity.
The IL-96 is equipped with four turbofan engines with a high (4.5) bypass ratio PS-90A with a thrust at maximum engine operating mode of 16,000 kgf, which are mounted on pylons to the wing consoles. Thrust in cruising mode - 3500 kgf. Specific fuel consumption in cruising mode is 0.595 kg/kgf·hour. Made using a two-shaft system, there is a reversing device. The fan is single-stage, the compressor is 13-stage. The high-pressure turbine is two-stage, the low-pressure turbine is four-stage. PS-90A has a modular design, the number of modules is 11.
For the first time in the history of Soviet aviation, the engine is equipped with a two-channel electronic control and parameter monitoring system “Diagnoz-90”. Among the advantages of the system are automatic control of fuel consumption and surge protection. An air launch is provided at an altitude of up to 7,000 meters.
It is planned to install new engines for new modifications of the aircraft: on the Il-96-400M - more economical PS-90A3, and in the future after 2025 - two PD-35 instead of the four engines used on existing modifications. The development of the PD-35 high-thrust engine for wide-body aircraft began in the summer of 2016, using as a base a scaled gas generator from the lighter PD-14 engine created for the MC-21.

I travelled in Russia I mean the old CCCP back in the 80's and flew the TU154M numerous times. Although the interior was not very sexy, flight wise, it performed many times better than any flight I had in the 727, it was smoother, less bumpy, faster take offs, smoother landings, it was much better all around, I really miss the old Aeroflot TU154M! Give me a bottle of vodka and let's go!

Well a plane that is actively used by one airline, its easy to say is the safest plane in the world as only 1 is in active service. Its a fuel thirsty old plane that is luckily getting modernized. Maybe add IFE.

Those PS 90A must deliver more power than the engines fitted in any A 340-300 or 500. The main issue about this magnificent 4 engine aircraft is the fuel economy per passanger. Other than that, I do prefer multi engine airplane for long distance schedule, just in case any sudden engine failure. Russian Federation can do it, go ahead, do not give up, and break the sanctions.

Reliable... Very few airframes were completed, either don't fly or are always on repairs for extended periods. So easy to be reliable or safe...
