'To Mega Therion' is just a masterpiece, from the incredible Giger cover art to the Colossal Riffs Of Doom™ that lurk within the grooves...still my go-to Tom Warrior album to this day, good as 'Into The Pandemonium' and the first Triptykon album are.

Tom G Warrior (Thomas Gabriel Fischer) is the vocalist/guitarist and founder. Martin Eric Ain was the bassist and he passed away in 2017 of a heart attack.

They were a massive influence on crust punk here in the UK. There’s the Discharge D Beat all over those early records. They were crossover in really underrated way.

Especially on black metal. They had that atmospheric wall of sound that immediately stated ‘we aren’t a hair metal band’.

I can still remember being a teenager in the midwest in I guess '86 or '87 going to every record store I could find looking for CF albums and the blank stares I would get from people working there when I asked if they had any or had heard of them.

One of the heaviest and my earliest loves from the underground scene. Way underrated and underappreciated for their overall contribution to the metal movement. You have to understand that most teenagers weren't privy to Celtic Frost back then. All they had was hairspray radio friendly bubblegum that was being portrayed as metal. Some of us knew what was coming though. We knew it would put that garbage to sleep.

The lead singer is Tom G. Warrior aka Tom Warrior aka Thomas Gabriel Warrior and probaly a few more iterations I'm forgetting and he's still alive and singing/playing in a band called Triptykon that will bring you back to the long lost glory of Frost.

I watched Triptykon (Warrior's band after the end of Frost) couple of months ago in Greece... They played a Celtic Frost only setlist under the hot sun of Athens and it was an absolute KILLER.

I love Celtic Frost. You should react to their song, Dethroned Emperor next. Tom G. Warrior is the lead singer and guitarist. He's still alive. Celtic Frost were a heavy influence on Black metal, but they weren't necessarily a Black metal band.

@@Lunacyk Arguably. I still consider Celtic Frost to be an umbrella of various metal genres. They have elements of Death, Thrash, Doom, Black, Gothic, and they even have a Glam metal album. It's hard to classify them as just "Black metal". I disagree with you. I can hear Black metal in Bathory, Blasphemy, Von, and Sarcofago, but Celtic Frost were hard to pin down so far as metal genres.

I think they were Black Metal when Black Metal was more about the lyrics, before it had a more solidified musical identity.

@@mrare1985 For sure… That was when Metal was just starting to branch into more sub-genres. Heavy, Metal, Death, Black and Thrash were about all there was, not including Hardcore. And Celtic Frost def was kinda a mixture of all of the above. They were really rather progressive for their time!

Celtic Frost are often described as avant-garde metal, so they blend a lot of different genres and sub genres of metal together to create their style of music which is very eclectic and has a lot of influence from a lot of different places.

This is the realest and truest metal reaction channel ever! Never found anyone even similar. This is old school black metal, the black metal sound of the 80s. The darker thrash/speed bands were black metal in the 80s so to say. Also love that "sad boy black metal" reference to dark funeral lmao 😆👌🏿 all in one always enjoy you discovering them great bands, killer as always sis 🖤

Nearly every band you can think of was influenced at some time by Celtic Frost. Even Sonic Youth said in an interview they had listened to them! They were the bedrock from which the Norwegian black metal scene was built. When I heard the song "Procreation of the Wicked" in the mid 1980's I thought I was listening to the most evil thing ever made and started me on my metal journey that now I'm 55 years am still on with pride!

When I had first seen this video air in 1986 on the Canadian Much Music Power Hour segment I was completely blown away as to how heavy it sounded to me back then as a 13-year-old kid. By this point I had not heard even Metallica s or Slayers music or let alone any Thrash or early Death Metal until maybe 2 years after viewing this. It looked so dark and menacing to me at the time that it kind of scared me yet had me intrigued at the same time as things of an evil nature tend to do lol. What a great introduction to Extreme Metal back then.

This is a perfect example on how clear you can pinpoint the direct influences of some bands on extreme metal genres. A lot of death and black metal bands (Especially Obituary) took Hellhammer and Celtic frost´s work and evolved their music starting from there.

I recall when these guys came out (as Hellhammer), & back then they were one of the 1st few select black metal bands. They were simplistic yet had an innovative sound all their own (them, Bathory, & My Dying Bride). And Venom! *Oh, and the singer is Tom G. Warrior.* They last played in my city in upstate N.Y. in 2008 (when I was out of town - grrr)! The Hellhammer tune, *Triumph of Death,* is one for the ears. EARLY black metal at its best that gave birth to more black metal bands over the years.

It got me introduced to bands like Lamb Of God, In Flames, Soilwork, Arch Enemy, Slayer, Anthrax, Black Dahlia Murder, Meshuggah, Dimmu Borgir, DevilDriver, Killswitch Engage, MushroomHead, Static X, Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson, Cradle of Filth, Deicide, Slipknot, Children of Bodom, Trivium, God Forbid, Fear Factory, Mudvayne, Chimaira, As I Lay Dying, Demon Hunter, Mastodon, Strapping Young Lad, Megadeth, Machine Head Those where good CDs with awesome songs and a great gateway to metal.

A strange history combined with Celtic Frost ........ About 2-3 years ago I finally bought the rare picture LP " Emperors Return" 1. edition from 85 from Discogs. (( GREAT coverart - please tjek it :) )) Good price only 200 euro. When I opened the package I saw it was the 2. edition from 86 ..... Damn it I felt really bad but managed to get 100 euro back from the seller. The seller was not into metal and was honest to believe it was the 1. edition. He was so sorry. Now comes the really strange : After years and years with a 1. edition from 85 and a much cheaper 2. edition from 86 Discogs came with an announcement just 2 weeks after my false edition. Discogs said : Hello dear collectors and sorry. As the first in the world we can tell that through the years there have been some false informations about the PICTURE LP from CF. 1. edition from 85 has never existed. 1. edition is from 86 ! Wauv ! How is it possible to be with a false edition for so many years I really dont know. ------- So from this day I proudly owned the 1. edition :)

Back in time there was no internet but only shops and not KZbin with informations ..... Therefore I remember a solid rumour which said : 3 x band Concert in especially Sweden in 84-85 (I remember) with Sodom - Demoes and "In the sign of Evil" ------ Celtic Frost (Hellhammer) and demoes and "Morbid Tales" And with the holy/ HOLY grail ----------------- BATHORY (FORMER of true black metal) (( FUCK VENOM)) !! All these bands started as BLACK METAL am bestens/all great !! Concerts plans was cancelled but I think it would have been some of THE best concert ever !! If deeply Bathory fan you will hardly feel the strong sorry for this missing opportunity ..... ((Bathory never toured)) Tomas Forsberg RIP ! Therefore we also went in the woods to hear the premiere of their upcoming outputs ----- ....... Hail the true music and spirit !

For me, CF hold up better than any other band of the 80s. I listen to them now 100x more than i do Metalimega-slayer-soup. They innovated, the rest of the bands drank and played garbage. They def. had a rough patch, but to take 15 years off from 1991 to 2007 and put out one of the greatest extreme albums ever ... they are legends.
