Shawn, At one time I was going to go this route until I realized that if a weather related event kills the power we would need the tractor to move snow or remove downed limbs etc. I like watching these vids with the tractor and your accessories. I decided not to trade up to the 120hp. Will just keep the Kubota 5740 we have. All of our accessories are in the 6 foot wide range witch is perfect for residential drives. My bread and butter. Be well. Wayne

For sure, there would be some logistics. The thing is, I wouldn't run the generator all hours. I'd unplug...move some stuff and then plug back in. That's my plan. LOL. For the price, finding 16KW was not going to happen with a gas or propane or diesel unit. Thanks for watching. The Kubotas are great tractors. I saw the inauguration parade in DC had tractors in it and I was like...how do I get in!!??? :) Take care!

Shawn, You are correct. Without having to purchase another power unit, just the gen-set they are better value,and very practical. Wayne

Great video! I'm searching for something similar, and your Geothermal comment caught my attention! (We also have geothermal). Unfortunately, my tractor is only 29.5 HP and has only 22 HP at the PTO so I'm restricted to an 11KW or less PTO Generator, which won't run our geothermal I'm afraid but it would run a water pump and other items within our home to make an emergency more comfortable. I'm also comparing units, one by this manufacturer and a similar one from Winco. Have you used a Winco generator (for comparison purposes)? Thank you for your video. I've subscribed as I enjoyed you presentation. Thank you. (By the way,... I loved your idea for a cart to move it around the shop to hook up to the tractor! I'm definitely going to steal that idea :) when I finally purchase the generator)

Thank you! I appreciate the comments. I did research several brands, and Winco was on the list. When I purchased, I found the combination of features, size, and price point to support the IMD purchase. I use it 2x per year probably. It's fairly cheap insurance for the times when I need it. I've considered the whole house models (Generac), but can't seem to get over the high cost of installation. I figure the PTO model has more flexibility for me to help myself, and also my neighbors as needed.

Great video! I'm looking at PTO generators and this is a great video. Now that you've had it for awhile, how do you like the IDM generator? The 3 point stand looks like a factory build stand...would you do something different now that you've had it for awhile?

I do like it. Nice security to have it. The metal 3pt hitch is from IMD. wooden stand with casters is my design. Works well. Thanks for watching.

How choose speed multiplier ( ratio ). My tractor is 720 rpm and generator needs 1500 rpm at least. Thank you sir

Good video. In a power outage situation, do you run the pto generator continuously for hours or typically for shorter periods? I would think you probably wouldn’t want the tractor running unattended while you sleep at night etc.. Seems to me that perhaps a small gas generator, in addition to your pto generator, might be an ideal combination. Pto generation for heavy loads (furnace, dryer, well pump etc..) and small gas generator for everything else. Your thoughts appreciated. Thanks you

I won't let it run while I sleep. I run it when we need to do things (shower, cook, etc.) and then turn it off. I've had it run for a few hours before - continuously. No issues.

I'm considering the same model but in the 22kw version. Curious if you still have it going after 5 years and any hiccups over that time period? Thanks.
@ModernCountryLiving2 жыл бұрын
I'd buy it again and no issues. I fire it up a couple times per year without incident.

What size geo thermal heat pump do you have? Any idea if it’s still around 1gal per hr when running? I like this idea vs having to figure out propane & said engine etc. Also bc we have a decent size fuel tank on property it may be easier than another engine to maintain..just not as quiet with a tractor beside the house :)
@sevillianc6 жыл бұрын
Like what ton
@ModernCountryLiving6 жыл бұрын
My logic was that this was a less expensive way to get a lot of capacity and I know my tractor will run. A stand alone generator has certain advantages...if they run. MY geo is a 5 ton unit and I have a ground loop (not an open loop system). I can run the geo, but wouldn't want to run a bunch of other stuff. If I don't run the geo, I can run the rest of the house with everything on.

I am looking at this exact PTO generator. Running it with a new LS 45 hp tractor with PTO - 38hp. I am looking at generator options with fuel consumption. What is your tractor HP? Any idea on fuel burn per hour with generator under normal load (approx 50%). I have looked at a Generac 17.5 kw gas generator but it's fuel burn is 16 gallons/10 hours at 50% load. Not a good option using 35 gallons per day when it is not uncommon to be without utility power for several days after a hurricane or ice storm. I am thinking the PTO generator with a 100 gallon portable diesel skid tank on front loader forks with hose/nozzle long enough to reach tractor fill cap would be a good set-up.

I have a T4.95. It's technically 98hp engine. I am seeing about 1-1.5 gallons per hour. This generator is nothing for this tractor.

@@ModernCountryLiving im considering a 10kw, i was going to buy a winco but now i realize i have more options. the tractor is a kubota BX2350 with a D902 diesel. im thinking the smaller tractor and smaller generator properly sized for that smaller tractor would see even less fuel burn...... perhaps .6 gallons per hour? it has to be quite a bit more fuel efficient then a gas unit.
