the garage scene mad max interceptor car was a real blower, but it wasnt used in any of the scenes in the movie , i was reading about it online from the guy who actually designed the car, it had a 460 windsor and a weiand 8-71 blower with nitromethane injected, the motor put out 433 hp with the 8-71 blower kicked in at 6000 rpm, it blew off the driveshaft, twisted it like a pretzel right on the dyno. the moviecar used in most the movies was a 351 cleveland with a 4bb 850cfm inside the dummy blower, the 8-71 blower mad max intercepter is at the melbourne mad max museum its a 1973 falcon XB-GT with a 460 w police inteceptor v8 and they mounted a a heavy duty, shortened driveshaft from a 1969 mack truck. and custon forged univerals. that real one was actuall run on a 4 mile test road near where the road warrior was filmed, it hit 228mph wouldnt go any faster

Sorry, but not, it was a fake. You can't switch a supercharger on and off like that. It was attached to the air-con pump pulley so it could be engaged and disengaged for the film. In reality you wouldn't do this. You either tune the car for a supercharger or tune it for naturally aspirated. Also, they simply didn't have the budget. The director even donated his own Mazda Bongo van to save money (the blue van destroyed in the opening scene). They yellow Pursuit and Interceptor were knackered. One was an ex-taxi, the other an old police car. You'll notice one was smoking a lot. It's engine was shot but they just painted it and trashed it. It was an incredibly low budget film and they couldn't afford to make a properly supercharged car. There would be no point. It wouldn't have made a difference to how it looked in the film.

They used a real blower but they mounted it above the carb and it ran off an electric motor. In other words, it did not function. The supercharger was borrowed from a local drag racing team and returned to them after filming. For the second film a different setup was acquired, also a hollowed out shell that ran via a separate motor. There are some very good videos detailing the history of the car and the technical details about its past. It was, for all of its life, a naturally aspirated 351 Cleveland.

just a bit of trivia, you ever see the older nissan GTR's (2005-2018's) ever notice the rear qtr window shape looks just like the one on the mad max car? that is because the japanese designer was a huge fan of the max max car that he actually incorporated that, qtr window (behind driver/pass doors) into all the fourthcoming Nissan GTR'S

They look similar, but are different in that the Nissans' rear qtr panel window slopes down and the Ford Falcon coupes rear qtr panel windows are more angled up.

This is an insult to the real thing, if you had a coyote twin cam 6lt or a twin cam 5.4 liter and then add the 6/71 blower you have around 700 HJP ? Also the amount of blue smoke coming out, is telling me the piston rings and oil rings are not sealing properly ?

See ya on the road scag, true but what you said the original were basically old wreckers cars and they just needed to go and no way on this earth that they would have made anywhere near 700HP at the rear wheels, but in reality if you did the motor up and put the supercharger as the movie car was done up to look like it would produce around that much power? I guess it depends how much CASH you have to make your car look and go like the original especially if your going to take it to car shows and to Mad Max cities from the movie like upcoming clubs events in Regional victoria etca?

A 198 hp engine can sound great depending on the exhaust, but it won't be very fast. I never understood just what the engine setup was on the movie car. It has a 6-71 blower (which can somehow be turned on and off?) but no sign of a carburetor between the scoop and blower. I'm assuming the blower was fake, and the carburetor was hidden inside the empty housing. But what about all the replicas? Are they built that way too? It would be kind of embarrassing to drive around in a car that looked like that with only 200 hp.

Some replicas have a real blower. There was one here in Ireland that was real, it was the same falcon sprayed black it didn't have the rest of the body kit though. He sold it to a guy who was building a replica in the US. He could never use it here. It rained too much where it was in Ireland (Galway) not good for a real blower lol.

The blower was not real because it had be manually activated in the film. If you did that in real life, the entire engine would explode from what I heard.

@@The_Slayer-l9c Actually it is mechanically possible to design a 6-71 blower setup with an electrically operated clutch of some kind, like an A/C compressor, that could be turned on and off. The engine would run terrible with it off, because the rotors in the blower case would obstruct air flow. And it would need some kind of clutch that would slip a bit to begin with, so you didn't get full boost all at once. Nobody makes anything like that, because there is no reason to. But there is nothing to prevent it from being done.

It's probably a bone stock 351 Windsor a 2 barrel, so 200 horsepower wouldn't be that horrible for a daily.

a supercharger is not a blower, superchargers give power off the line, a turbocharger you need higher rpm for them to work, a blower has twin screws and twin large butterflies at the top with a nitro injector between them, if your doing 160mph and hit the nitrous injected blower within i second you'll be doing well over 220mph, so between a supercharger and turbo, i would go with the blower everytime, like Goose told max in the garage " you could shut the gate with this one Max" the gate swings open at 200mph, shutting the gate is 251mph

thats weak af. my 2012 3.7 liter v6 stang had 305 stock h.p.and it has a cool air intake and a tune and now add on 10 hp plus round 15 hp now its a v6 making roughly 330 hp or more.
