With the release of his first two albums independently he was giving the middle finger to the whole established music industry, so his debut was literally the point of no return where the rest of his career was destined to be a David vs. Goliath struggle against the larger publishers. You should hear some of his dope features like Taking HipHop back with Necro, or Civil War with Killer Mike.

God damn it. Do "Rich Mans World" already! I think you'd really like it. lol. His flow and content on that track are top tier and far more entertaining. I really like this track though. Haven't heard it in a while. I think I mentioned this a while ago but don't remember if I did. immortal Technique learned how to rap while in prison. He had a lot of written journals; I believe a tape recorder and things like that, but of course he didn't have a studio or anything to play back his vocals. So his first few projects are kinda rough as far as his flow and delivery/syncopation with the beat. He took his acapella's and free form writing and threw them onto some beats, instead of writing with the beat. It has a certain gritty quality to it that can sound good but not all the time. There's times where it sounds like he's gasping for air or trying to cram too many syllables in a single line. There's times where it sounds good and other times when it doesn't. But I think he really improved his flow and delivery later on in his career and it sounds more polished but still raw and underground at the same time.

@@ABoomerReacts As far as reaction videos go I'd say like 50/50 based purely on the shock value of the plot twist. It's the reason it's probably one of the most requested rap songs. As far as musicality and/or lyricism that style of rap is not very popular although it does have a very dedicated niche following. People seem to either love or hate Immortal Technique (if they even know about him). For the people who like him I think it's mostly because of the political content.

Viewers were telling me that I picked the 2 most depressing songs of his to react to. This one and You Never Know. (Like I know which songs will be depressing). Anyway, they both had plot twists that seem manufactured. They might be true stories but they didn't ring true for me. I didn't like either one of them.

You know, I haven’t listened to this song in probably 10-15 years, and I have to say it’s better than I remember. It’s funny, Immortal Technique was my favorite emcee in high school (which is of course the most stereotypical thing ever) and - like many teenage Immortal Technique fans as they reach early adulthood - I began to find his music a bit corny, what with all the super scientifical lyrical myrical aesthetics and such, which eventually led to me not really listening to him anymore. But I think it also caused me to forget how good his better work is.

personally i think dance with the devil is an extremely skillfully made song, but i would never listen to it, hit way too hard emotionally the first time i heard it as a kid, just unpleasant. so the plot twist in dance with the devil was explained to me like this: the group of men who picked her out knew that it was his mother, they did it on purpose because earlier in the song it was mentioned that he had snitched, in a gang setting this isn't something that you get away with, especially since he still had it in him to try to get close to those evil people after, they were never going to let him join and most likely weren't going to let him survive that event either way. as for it being a true story, as i've understood it he learned the story from one of the men involved, his cellmate that was doing life.
@ABoomerReacts
@ABoomerReacts 6 ай бұрын
That makes so much more sense than his mother being chosen at random. It adds a whole new element to the song that makes it better than it is at face value. Thanks so much for sharing that with me. I won't hate on the song anymore.

@ABoomerReacts I don't think so. 2 facts to back this. 1. He is an OG and smart as hell and would absolutely not admit a crime on record. 2. A raped woman murdered and suicide jumper would almost certainly make the news. He's a musician, please dont believe all songs you hear. Metallica's One was in fact sung by the band, and there was not a blind and deaf combat vet involved at all. Its music...
