Honestly, the idea of using technology to negate, replicate, or enhance ninjutsu is an idea they could do a lot with. Like, as an extreme response to the looming threat of alien invasion. Gene splicing Kekkai Genkais into people. Bioweapons that artificially seal off a person's Chakra. Cybernetic augmentations that force the 8 Gates open while keeping the user alive, albeit in a constant state of agony. Hell, an artificial clone of Kurama made to replace the original!
