I think the most unfortunate thing in that last match is that your opponent naturally drew all four turtles. Hard to win when you remove three copies of their crucial combo card, yet their deck gives them the fourth.

So, the way you evaluate if a 4+ cmc creature is good in standard is: If me and the opponent are topdecking, on an empty board, I topdeck this card, and they topdeck Sheoldred, do I win? Only creature that survives the filter is Atraxa.

@@MetalHev OP was talking about pulling it in paper, so commander is probably more relevant than Standard for card prices there. But even there, she's only good in burn decks and unlike Solphim is only a rare - so I'm not surprised she isn't worth a lot. With that "filter", though, I don't think it makes much sense to only consider when you are in topdeck mode with empty boards, because I don't think the game comes down to that most of the time. Sheolded has exactly one important weakness, which is that she often just dies to removal getting little to no additional value, which is a possibility that the topdecking scenario heavily downplays - if you are considering a 4+ CMC creature that at least gets some immediate value or has some built in protection (or both like Soul of Windgrace), it can definitely be worth including in your deck, sometimes even over Sheoldred. If I were to take the "topdecking with empty boards" situation, though, then another creature that handily survives this filter (assuming your deck is built around them) is *Lier, Disicple of the Drowned*, who probably lets you flashback a removal spell in addition to giving you access to a bunch of other cards you have in the graveyard.

@@Icameron259 thing is, Sheoldred is a hand check. If you don't have removal, you just die. If you dig for removal, you die. Any board you had before is rendered useless because she's absolutely gigantic and, unlike Lier, you can just throw Sheoldred in any deck and it'll instantly be busted, while Lier has an incredibly harsh deckbuilding constraint (and was nerfed in alchemy, so something being compared to Lier is already a really bad sign).

I mean... it just looked like any time you played it, you should have just played anything else you had and it would have done something instead of nothing. Even when it stuck around. 1v1 it needs immediate followup, meaning it's basically a 5+ drop or even 6+ in this Standard, and you could be (/are) casting good dragons for that. Even in Commander I can't see it being allowed to do much of anything unless every player is 100% non-interactive (which I hear is not that unlikely, but still). Maybe fun in the 99 of some decks though eg a Ghyrson Starn with enough spells. Feels like you gotta have something else going on first. Ok hold on just figured - it sends stuffy doll, brash taunter etc in to ridiculous overdrive. Can one of you guys do a brew/video of that?
