I think this is common in places where they buy and cook on a daily basis and don't use large fridges. You only take and use what is necessary - leftovers are shared. Ironic that some people often become sick and less social when they have such excess and are mindless with it..

Its clearly not because I’ve traveled to 3 different countries currently in my life and spent a good amount of time there. Its obvious you have never traveled internationally before. You must be thinking of caviar, which is wild sturgeon eggs. Those are expensive. Salmon eggs are a whole lot cheaper.
