Very cool to see gun culture in another country. Guns are normal part of life in US obviously but i don’t often come across other countries who allow them. Pretty cool to see.

Recommendation: Try to not lift your head off the stock after every shot. Staying in the same location will help your shot-to-shot consistency. It may only save you one miss every few matches, but as you know that can equate to an additional win throughout a season.

4:25; that's a first round hit at 890ish yards. I hope to be that good one day but so far I've only been out to 600 once and that was rough enough for my completely stock $350 Savage .308. It's a work in progress. Then there's the little nuances: "Spin will offset the conditions". I wasn't even thinking about spin drift. 13:10; I'd like to say don't feel bad Pete but I know at your level you'll beat yourself up about dialing with the wind instead of into it. I've done that too. In an odd way you doing it makes me feel better about me doing it.
@silvermediastudio
@silvermediastudio 10 ай бұрын
Spin drift at 1000yd for a typical 6.5CM amounts to a whopping (sarcasm) 0.16MRAD. Almost inconsequential with the size of targets shot.

Wondering why you dial wind instead of just holding it?
@silvermediastudio
@silvermediastudio 10 ай бұрын
It's an open field, likely a fairly static wind. He and the spotter have probably shot at this location many times, they have notes on how the wind behaves at each station and distance to work from, and then refined by observation. But ultimately, shooter's preference. His ret might make it easier to dial than to hold.

They could be seated out far enough to not fit the mag. I run the 230 A Tip out far enough on my Sherman that I can feed from the mag
@silvermediastudio
@silvermediastudio 10 ай бұрын
As commented, they likely have an overall length that won't fit the mag, also, he might be so far forward (zero jump, the bullet is already in the lands when the bolt is in battery) with very low neck tension, so loading from a mag and up a feed ramp may upset the overall concentricity of the cartridge. He may also have different sets of rounds to select from, optimized for barrel temperature. There isn't much benefit to that, but some people go nuts with it.

@ericrumpel3105

.....just curious, at the start of this video when shooting/checking your dope, - you do not load your bipod, it actually looks like you may be loading it backwards - pulling rifle towards you,....??.....is that a fundamental you developed that you prefer??.....
@silvermediastudio
@silvermediastudio 10 ай бұрын
Loading the bipod isn't beneficial for long range precision. It induces stress in the body and causes the rifle to jump during the firing. Also, it is not possible to consistently load the bipod between shots.
