I got Alphaville and Spirit of Ecstasy about three weeks ago and have listened to nothing else since. I've seen other metal bands -- black , death, and otherwise -- hint and tease at mixing metal and jazz, some more successfully than others, but never all out and balls to the wall like these guys. There's some deep aural itch that their visceral textures and dissonant melodies scratch, simultaneously primal and sleek as fuck, and never, ever pretentious. These guys are brilliant, passionate, talented and dedicated musicians with a real and genuinely unique vision. Thanks, Imperial Triumphant, for proving that there's still a lot more that can be done with metal that is singular and innovative, and to a weirdo like me anyway, enjoyable as hell.

This band is phenomenal live. All band members are phenomenal musicians. Some of the drum parts in particular made my jaw drop. Here I come, a talkative fan, with an audio-kinetic memory that is sensitive to sounds and music : I have SO MANY things to say. I'm very glad I found Imperial about a month ago, with this performance by clicking by mistake (literally). Holy shit that was worth it. That song definitely sounds even better live, as complex as the studio version is! Look at this attitude, this whole aesthetic that shines even more under these lights, and that peculiar performance! Going from barely touching the instruments with some kind of, grace? to that brutal ballet of sounds really smoothly. It gives chills and makes us feel an ambiance we never got into, so that's the right name for that piece. It sounds like danger in some way. Everyone here is really good at portraying that and I'm going to tell you why, let's start by singer Zachary Ilya Ezrin's voice! Geez, I had never heard someone sing like that before listening to Vile Luxury and he's literally the most appropriate singer for it, the best choice ever. His vocals are so raw, so deep, seem layered by different feelings, so stable and sound like they come from Hell itself without being too noisy or sounding ridiculous. It's really impressive, mysterious and very cool. (That's some big chad technique here!) Next we've got Kenny Grohowski, the drummer. He's like, REALLY skilled to me. At the beginning of the song he doesn't make that much noise but you can hear it's always subtle and precise, extremely fitting the moment. He's brutal in their other songs by the way, so it shows he's got a whole range of skills. And finally, there is bassist Steve Blanco. It really impressed me when he used that bottle to make these sounds with his bass. I don't think you could know it's a bass if you're only listening, and the fact that he turned his instrument into something else THAT WAY is unusual. That bass, like I said for the whole song earlier, sounded like danger and associating sounds to feelings in musical projects **really** is a move that does something to me. I I gotta say it's extremely rare, I've been looking for many things like that in the past and was never satisfied. And as you see, it looks like it takes a lot of practice to do so but, how did they picture danger, fear and some warm, stiffling breeze so well???? That's what intrigues me here, these blues don't come from Earth. These guys create sounds that look and are hard to create to give you an experience you've never had before. I usually don't like my metal black, but Imperial is an hybrid of black metal and jazz, two genres that are so different from each other- I love dark jazz. Now THAT'S originality, it's been years since we didn't see anything new in Black metal. And now I will never think the same, we've got them ! That band is just, sweating mad skill and taste and that's why I wrote that comment. That's such an Alien discovery. Hope they see it!!

Pronunciation is off in places ("l", "sh") but altogether lyrics are good and interesting, I guess it translates to something like this: "The skin peels off like tatters Ash has slowly settled/fallen down Above our scorched flesh Our home, our town is deserted We're children of a deadly god (although I haven't heard "mertvenny" be used irl, is it an actual word?) We're fathers of nuclear slumber And wolves howl songs of death Of how this mistress Came/Appeared to unruly children Keeping her secrets safe We're children of a deadly god Our names have been forgotten"
