I find it kind of funny that after reading the comics and seeing videos on the EU I find myself sympathizing with the emperials way more then the 'good guys'. I find myself routing for and identifying more with the sith then the Jedi

At least from my experience in the military, a lot of soldiers also identify much more with the Imperials than the Rebels. George Lucas himself even said Richard Nixon was a big influence on his creation of Palpatine and that the Empire had a lot of Vietnam Era America vibes going on. Everyone makes the comparison to Nazis because the aesthetic is clearly Nazi/Imperial German, but that also was a lot of of the film style in general, the award ceremony at the end of A New Hope is almost ripped straight out of Nazi propaganda. So while the aesthetics are clearly to invoke that "bad guy" feel, a lot of the influence came from Cold War America. Leading a bunch of people who tend to identify with Imperials because they see themselves in the Imperials more than the Rebels. Just change Endor a bit, Stormtroopers = US Army Rebels = North Vietnamese Army Ewoks = Vietcong Also take the usage of WMDs as deterrents/fear weapons, which America did. Oppression of minorities (aliens) which America did. Crushing down hard on different ideologies no matter the shades of it, as America did with communism. There's a point in your military career where you enlist thinking you are joining the Rebel Alliance but actually you are the Stormtrooper. Shit, you even have "Battle roster numbers" which are very similar to the Stormtrooper IDs such as TK-2189, these can vary depending on unit, but they are usually your first and last initial followed by the last 4 digits of your SSN. A lot of people tend to forget Star Wars was released just 2 years after the Fall of Saigon and at a time where the Cold War was still in full swing, so the Empire in general has a ton of influences from America, USSR, former Nazi Germany, and so on while the Rebels tend to follow more along the lines of the Vietnamese, Afghan Mujahideen, and Eastern European/Western European Resistance. So it comes to no surprise that people can easily identify with the Empire more, because it aligns heavily with what we grew up in.

One of these days people will pull their heads out of their asses at Disney and give us a movie from the Imperial perspective (without some BS "Oh imma join the rebels now cuz I can't make hard choices for the greater good" plotline) The Empire were the good guys, sorry hate to break it to you all. The vast majority of the galaxy not only benefited from Imperial rule, but also fully supported it. The new canon books back that up as well. The New Republic was completely incompetent, demilitarized most of the galaxy and ignored the fact that a sizable chunk of Imperial military assets disappeared into the unknown regions and did nothing to pursue them. The result? Star Killer base, the destruction of the Hosnian system which was the central hub of New Republic government and a new faction, The First Order who is poised to retake control of the galaxy even though they have a fairly small number of ships. A faction headed by inexperienced and more importantly VENGEFUL leaders, instead of calm, collected, well trained and competent ones as the Empire was. Idealism and hope only carry you so far, just like with the Jedi, if you are not prepared to make hard choices and compromise those ideals in order to protect them, they become worthless. Lets not forget, the Empire did not take control in any violent coup. They simply changed the name of the current government and even eliminated a huge amount of unneeded red tape by turning over control of systems to regional governors, instead of those systems being ruled by people who may have come from there, but lived most of the way across the galaxy from their respective systems.

I doubt they knew about their disappearance, the New Republic was still trying to set itself up. Just because some people supported the Empire does not mean it was good. Palpatine tricked people into supporting his “New Order”. The Wookiees were enslaved, the Geonosians gassed and also enslaved, Alderaan BLOWN UP, and that is barely scratching the surface of the Empire’s atrocities. The Moff that was overseeing the Hutts was continually bribed by them so they could continue their operations. Other Moffs were bribed as well. A lot of the officers in the Empire were pretty incompetent. They could not even catch a ragtag group of rebels.

Oh boy, I can’t believe I got a job working on the Imperial Battle Station called the Death Star! Pay is pretty great, I get full benefits, and there’s a bunch of nice people to hang out with during my breaks, plus I get to take a month long vacation every year to see my family as well get paid maternity ward and paternity leave, which is great because my wife just got pregnant with our first child! The Stormtroopers are nice too, they make sure to keep the station free of problems, and sometimes they like to share stories of battles they’ve been in while they chill and guard us during our jobs. This is the break I’ve been looking for! Finally, stable income, great benefits, fun people, and a future that looks oh so bright for me! Just because the Empire built a superweapon and used it to destroy Alderaan doesn´t make it evil. Perhaps I should remind all viewers that the USA did it too, with Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which were, just as Alderaan, civilian targets. But it ended the war. And to this very day, nukes and MAD have given us much needed stability. Just imagine what would happen if some terrorist group like the Rebels destroyed, lets say, Indian and Pakistani nuclear stockpile. So ther next time you look at DS-1, bear this in mind. Its easy to look down on stability and cheer for freedom when your homeland has had an abundace of stability for the last 70 years.

That doesn't apply here. Only House Organa funded the rebellion. Alderaan was a member of the Core Worlds. It would be like the US nuking a major city like San Francisco just because one politician supported an small enemy group. It just doesn't work. MAD keeps different powers and countries from destroying each other. But the Empire is the only power aside from small groups like the Hutts that can't defeat them. It was a huge blunder and a good thing that the Empire lost a weapon that they couldn't responsibly use.

Both factions had their flaws The Rebellion had largely good intentions at least under Mon Mothma, unlike Saw Guerra’s Partisans who were real terrorists, still by declaring war on the Empire they declared war on a nation which is made of people While they are liberating those who renounced Imperial Citizenship or admittingly not recognized as Imperial Citizens, they are at war with the rest who are pro Imperial or neutral The Empire did commit genocide, slavery and so much more but at least in part they did promote peace and order until war came Every Imperial Death is as tragic as a Rebel one, not every Imperial is Tarkin, Palpatine, Vader, a majority of them were like Iden Versio or Agent Kallus, who originally joined Empire to make a difference There’s heroes and villains on both sides of every war regardless whether the leaders of each side were good or not The Empire did need to either change or be brought down but still we have to remember that both Rebels and Imperials had lost and sacrificed so much and should be remembered for their part of changing the galaxy and for fighting the good fight
