K.H., I wondered why I felt a certain level of comfort hearing the exercise explained and played. Minor keys on the sharp side is where I live. For me, it is definitely the flat side that needs work- my creativity noticeably diminishes at around Ab. (side-note) It is also hard for me to think of Db as C#.. Looking forward to working with the exercise....ty....

I've been allow time to tighten up, and have, to a large degree, learning chord structure, extensions, and alterations with corresponding scales. A little hard to understand for straight up beginners, but just learn the A minor chord progression in the left hand and work on your A minor scale with the right. One hand at a time, and then both together, when you're ready. When you've got A minor down, move on to D minor and the rest of the circle of 4ths.

Down under the circle is traversed "anti-clockwise" by fourths . Traversing the circle in fourths while introducing the Dom7 sonically between chord transitions leads nicely to the next fourth throughout the series C->C7->F->F7->Bb->Bb7 ..etc. Thanks for the great lesson. That Mr. Alton Dominic always seems to add a color in between the black and whites.

Thanks, Kent. Can’t wait to try your minor keys exercise, although I expect it will feel familiar! For the last month I’ve set a challenge for myself: to play Autumn Leaves and improvise on it, in all keys. As you mentioned, the more difficult keys are F#m, C#m, G#m. Thanks for the backing track and the work you put in, scoring this. Would you consider putting up a video on the part played by the diminished 7 chord in moving from the II min7b5 to the V dom7b9? It’s interesting.
