This video is so underrated, that aspect ratio tip for the fib spiral was great 😊

WOW, littl'un, you know how to come back with a bang from your sojourn into photopills. Great to have you back but.....Rabatment, golden spirals? Coulda let yourself in gently huh? No not you littl'un. Still that's why we love you. Good to have you nearly back into 'real' photography. armatures huh. Ps; It's raining in Cambridge.

You bring a scientists perspective to many/most of your videos. When you do your podcast it would be very interesting to bring an a very right brained artist and have a discussion about how they treat things like aspect ratios and complimentary colors, leading lines, and other compositional topics. I'm not making any judgements here, I love listening to how different people use these things in their photography.

Incredible explanation of a topic I've long had the desire to learn more about. I especially appreciated the delineation of the golden spiral with a 1.6:1 aspect ratio compared to "normal" spirals with any other aspect ratio. Bravo!

Thank you! Once again you’ve presented a worthwhile subject in a clear, concise manner! I’ve used the “Golden Spiral” for the lions share of my crops not realizing the math or aspect ratio of it, much less how to set it correct as a ratio!
@outdoorphotographyschool73664 жыл бұрын
Happy to help clear that up! As I said in the video, spirals are still a great way to help arrange elements in a composition (even if they are not the golden spiral exactly).

Most excellent Brenda! I've found that since the new age of digital photography, it has created a lot of lazy photographers. Back when you paid 30 to $40 a roll for film to be processed, it forced you to slow down and really "look" thru that viewfinder and really see what and how you were shooting your subject. Nowadays, it seems we shoot frames and hope we get something decent without a consequence, just reformat the card and your ready again. I'll be the first to admit I'm guilty of that. Slow down and really scrutinize what your looking in that viewfinder. Great video and awesome explanations!

It is called spray & pray!
@outdoorphotographyschool73664 жыл бұрын
Totally agree! Definitely easier to "spray and pray" these days, but slowing down and taking your time with compositions is much more rewarding, in my opinion. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. :)

With so many ways to locate the subject of a photo in the proper place, I am wondering if it would be helpful to have an anti crop tool that would show the photographer that there is absolutely no justification for his/her particular location for his/her subject. ( tongue placed firmly in cheek) I would like to see a video on your opinion of the various crop guides and which ones you feel are the most effective.

Very interesting.....can I to place this on the display of my camera, canon 6D? If not, how can I to solve this? perhaps a app or....?
@outdoorphotographyschool73664 жыл бұрын
Some cameras have grids that can be displayed in the viewfinder or even on the LCD (you'll have to check your manual), but often this is limited to the rule of thirds. If you want to use them on your camera, the only way I can imagine doing that is printing a grid to the size of your LCD onto a transparency film and placing that over your LCD display.

Hey Brenda - great discussion - you might want to see this photographer/artist: Tavis Leaf Glover on KZbin. His dynamic semetry grids and tutorials has changed my photography so much. Thank you for this tutorial - for me the learning curve is still going straight up. (professional landscape/travel photographer and watercolor painter) J
