Hí Brenda, very good explained like always. Just a small addition: Instead of a "normal" layer mask you could use a luminosity mask. Than you can paint on the water with a big brush and do not hurt the parts around the water. That would be an extended methode nr. 3. All the best for you.

One aspect of using layer masks you did not mention is that having reduced the brush opacity (to 40%) and made the brush 'less aggressive', if you go over the same area twice or more times, the brush opacity is cumulative. To have more control, I use something like 10 or 15% opacity which seems to give a more natural painting effect.

Nice tips and tricks vid in photoshop! I'd like to see some more milkyway editing tutorial video if possible. I've found it's quite challenging to blend lighthouse with the milkyways because the differences in exposure and the light beam from the lighthouse could blown up the sky. If you could make some vid tutorial on milkyway editing that would be great. Anyways, nice channel. Love your content. Keep up all the good work!

I am aware of this technique but it is not something I have committed to memory. This explanation is very clear to me. Now I feel like I can try it without having to go back and look up how to do it. Thank YOU!

Awesome! I would have never thought of the first two, I do lots of longer exposures under coastal piers. I’ll have to give this a try. Thanks.

This might be a stupid question but, why wouldn’t you just shorten your long exposure to the point where you have some texture in the water?

Perfect! Layers still scare me (baffle me?), but this tutorial helped to demystify. (And, you’ve slowed your pace a bit - Thank You!)

So Brenda, a question. Would you flatten the image when finished or does it matter? I always wonder if I should flatten or not. Is there an advantage or disadvantage to flattening before saving?

Great video. This really helped me understand layer masks. I do have a question. How does this compare with just picking an intermediate shutter speed for the waterfall? Is the advantage that it lets you blend silky and stopped water in the same image?
